Always in awe of the work Wild At Heart Wildlife Sanctuary does for wildlife. Cases like this Bald Eagle remind us how much time, skill, and heart goes into saving these animals. Lead poisoning is sadly common in Eagles and the treatment needed to save them is intensive and expensive.
If youโre able, please consider donating through their PayPal link to help cover the cost of lifesaving care like chelation therapy so this eagle and many more can get a second chance. ๐ฆ
Every contribution truly makes a difference.Thank you to everyone at Wild At Heart Wildlife Sanctuary for never giving up on these animals. ๐

could use your help. For some reason the donate button on FB posts isn't available so here's our PayPal link. You don't need to have a PayPal to use it. You can also donate directly on our FB home page.

This is eagle 3 out of 4 in last 30 days. He came in from the Newport area. His blood test revealed he had lead poisoning too high for the lead test machine to read. In most cases, this is a death sentence. We had to get xrays to make sure the lead had passed through his system, it had. Then we started chelation treatment, the process to remove the lead. Tonight we rechecked his bloodwork, and we are down to a readable level (16.5 ug/dL). He started a second round of chelation tonight, this should clear his system once complete. Chelation medication is expensive and having to treat this bird twice took out our supply. If you are able to help us replace this life saving medicine, future wildlife patients would be very thankful. We are also in need of deer meat if you can make a donation of deer. We are always asked how they get lead poisoning, its from hunting with lead shot. Please make the switch to nonlead ammo. If you hunt with lead you are most likely eating lead too. Shout out to Carolina Rehabilitators of Wildlife Inc. for picking up this bird and transporting him.
