Swan’s Island Fire Department and Ems

On Thursday, Swan’s Island Fire and EMS received word from Senators King’s and Collins’ offices that we had been awarded $1.444 million through the Congressional Directed Spending Grant for the Station 2 addition. Having a training/meeting room and all the trucks and equipment under one roof will certainly enhance services and benefit the year-round and summer folks.

Many thanks to Fran and Eric Chetwynd who were instrumental in the grant writing process, Bob Fenney who volunteered his architectural knowledge and expertise to help us create blue prints, Sonny Sprague and the current selectmen who supported the project, those who wrote letters of support, and a final thank you to the islanders who voted at town meeting to raise the funds required to apply for the grant.

This past weekend 10 EMTs and EMRs spent Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday training. EMTs need 52 hours of continuing education and EMRs need 32 every three years in order to renew their licenses. We thank them for taking time away from their families and jobs to participate. Thank you also to Scott Luciano from Specialty Response Solutions for providing the training!
