The Marblehead Police Department would like to share that the Public Health Departments of Marblehead and Swampscott will be hosting a second free virtual community education series to foster understanding, reduce the stigma and strengthen community responses to substance use disorders.

Every other Thursday from June 4 to July 30, community members can participate in a six-week course that explores topics related to addiction and recovery, including conversations on defining and entering substance abuse recovery, pathways to recovery, and available support and resources.

The sessions, which are facilitated by Marblehead Police Department Co-Responder & Licensed Mental Health Clinician Gina Rabbitt and Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor Michelle Simons, are open to the public and aim to create a welcoming, judgement-free space for learning and discussion.

This is the second time the sessions have been offered. The first session, which was held in February, received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants.

The Swampscott Police Department is incredibly proud to announce that Lt. Mike Frayler has successfully graduated from the prestigious DC Police Leadership Academy (DCPLA) in Washington, D.C.! 🏛️🚓.

The DCPLA is hosted by the Metropolitan Police Department and is one of the nation's premier leadership development programs for law enforcement professionals. This rigorous, three-week immersive experience brings together policing leaders from across the country and the world. The program focuses on transformational leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and building a resilient organizational culture.

The DCPLA uses the historic landscape of our nation's capital from the Supreme Court to the Pentagon, as a real-world classroom to explore contemporary public safety challenges.

Policing today requires more than just operational competence; it demands visionary leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement. By completing this advanced, globally recognized program, Lt. Frayler is equipped with cutting-edge management strategies and a forward-thinking mindset that translates into a community-focused police department.

Making our streets safer is a top priority and the Swampscott Police Department has been hard at work implementing data-driven safety improvements throughout the town. From new signage to advanced pedestrian technology, here is a look at what’s been happening to keep our community secure:

🚦 Enhanced Traffic Control
Based on recent traffic data, we have successfully installed:
• Line delineators in key locations to better guide vehicle flow.
• New speed limit signs to remind drivers to slow down.
• A new speed board to provide real-time feedback to motorists.

🚶 Pedestrian Safety & Innovation
We are excited to announce that a new Rapid Flashing Beacon (RFB)will soon be installed on Humphrey Street near Greenwood Avenue. Once delivered, our officers and the DPW will coordinate the installation. We are also evaluating a second RFB location for Humphrey Street at Glen Road.

🏫 Protecting Our Students
Safety near our schools is paramount. The town will be implementing thermal-painted crosswalks this summer. This high-visibility technology is a game-changer for pedestrian safety.

In addition to the physical upgrades, our officers have developed a comprehensive “Safe Routes” to school plan to ensure our students continue to have a clear and protected path when walking to class.
