The Town of Swampscott is seeking residents who are interested in serving on a Charter Commission and helping take a closer look at how our local government is structured and operates.

A Charter Commission provides an important opportunity to review the Town’s charter, explore potential improvements, and help ensure Swampscott’s government continues to meet the needs of our community now and into the future.

ONE-DAY RECYCLING BARREL PICKUP – TOMORROW! ♻️

Missed your chance to grab an old recycling barrel? We still have a few available!

📅 Thursday, September 3
⏰ 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
📍 DPW Yard

Our recent container drop-off day was a huge success! Thanks to our residents, the Swampscott DPW, and North Shore volunteers from Marblehead and Beverly, nearly 150 old recycling barrels were redistributed to Peabody, with approximately 25 more finding new homes right here in Swampscott.

We still have a few barrels left, and we’d love to see them reused rather than discarded! While they do not have lids, they are still in good condition and can be put to work in plenty of ways:
🌿 Yard waste
♻️ Indoor recycling collection
🗑️ Indoor trash barrels
🛠️ Tool and equipment storage
📦 Basement or garage organization

Stop by the DPW Yard tomorrow between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM to pick one up while supplies last!
Please help us spread the word and give these barrels a second life.

Looking for even more barrels? Check out the North Shore Trash & Recycling Barrel Migration Facebook group:

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this reuse effort such a success!

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL, SWAMPSCOTT! ✏️🍎

Today marks the start of a new school year, and the Town of Swampscott is excited to welcome our students, teachers, staff, and families back to school!

As classrooms fill and school routines begin again, we wish everyone a year filled with learning, growth, friendship, and plenty of great memories.

A special thank you to our incredible educators, school staff, administrators, crossing guards, public safety teams, and families who work together to make each school year a successful one.

🚸 Drivers, please remember: With students back in school, take a little extra time on the roads, watch for children walking and biking, and use caution around school zones and bus stops.

Here’s to a safe, happy, and successful school year for all of Swampscott!

Welcome back, Big Blue! 💙

REMINDER: DPW DROP-OFF EVENT TOMORROW! ♻️

A reminder to Swampscott residents that tomorrow, Saturday, August 29, from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM, the DPW will have a few additional items accepted during the regular Metal & Styrofoam Drop-Off Day.

📌 Flattened Cardboard
Residents may drop off flattened cardboard for recycling.

📌 Old Recycling Bins & Carts
Residents may also drop off old recycling bins and carts. This will be the final opportunity to drop off old recycling carts and bins.

📌 Give a Cart a New Home!
For carts that are still in good condition, we will make every effort to find them a new home rather than dispose of them.

If you could use an old cart for yard waste, storage, or another purpose, feel free to stop by and take one that is available!

Saturday, August 29
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Thank you for helping us reuse and recycle whenever possible. Have a great weekend!

Celebrating a Successful Municipal Finance Fellowship!

As summer comes to a close, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Younel Espinoza-Garcia as he completes his Municipal Finance Fellowship with the Town of Swampscott!

Younel joined us this summer through the Massachusetts Municipal Finance Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Massachusetts Division of Local Services. Over the past several months, he has worked closely with our Finance Team, gaining valuable hands-on experience in municipal finance while assisting with projects and supporting the day-to-day work of the department.

Throughout his time with us, Younel brought a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic to Town Hall. We hope his experience in Swampscott has provided him with a greater understanding of municipal government and the many opportunities available in public service.

Programs like the Municipal Finance Fellowship are an important investment in the next generation of municipal professionals, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of Younel’s journey.

Younel, thank you for spending your summer with us and for all of your contributions to the Town of Swampscott! We wish you continued success as you take the next steps in your education and career. We know you have a bright future ahead! 🎉

Please join us in wishing Younel all the best!

Remembering the 25th Anniversary of September 11🇺🇸

The Town of Swampscott invites our community to come together on Friday, September 11, 2026, as we remember the lives lost, honor the courage and sacrifice of our first responders, and reflect on the strength and unity shown in the wake of September 11, 2001.

Swampscott Fire Station
76 Burrill Street

Please Arrive: 9:45 AM
Ceremony Begins: 9:55 AM

The remembrance ceremony will include the Presentation of Colors, National Anthem, an interfaith reflection, a moment of silence at 10:03 AM, the reading of local names, the Striking of the Four Fives Memorial Bell Ceremony, and remarks.

As we mark 25 years, we gather as a community to honor those we lost and ensure their memory continues for generations to come.

We will remember. We will honor. We will never forget.

Latest Trash & Recycling Updates 🗑️ ♻️

The Town of Swampscott continues to work through the transition to automated trash and recycling collection. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we address outstanding requests and questions.

📌 65-Gallon Recycling Cart Waitlist Update
We know many residents are waiting for their requested 65-gallon recycling carts. The Town is currently waiting for an updated delivery timeline from our vendor for the additional carts.

If you are already on the waitlist, there is no need to submit another request. Your request remains on file.

Until your 65-gallon cart is delivered, please continue using your Town-issued 95-gallon blue recycling cart for your regular recycling collection. We will provide an update as soon as we receive additional information from our vendor.

📌 Old Recycling Cart Collection Update
The one-time curbside collection of old, unused recycling carts has been taking place this week.

If your old recycling cart was not picked up, please email [email protected] so we can document the missed collection and provide further assistance.

Residents also have the option to bring their old recycling carts to our Saturday Drop-Off Event on August 29 at the DPW lot. If your cart is still in good condition, we especially encourage you to consider this option so it may be reused rather than disposed of.

📌 Bulk Item Collection
Bulk item collection must be scheduled and paid for directly through Republic Services. Bulk item stickers are no longer available for purchase at Town Hall.

Residents who need to dispose of a bulk item should contact Republic Services at 781-289-0500 to schedule and arrange payment for collection. Please do not place bulk items at the curb unless a pickup has been scheduled.

Thank You, Swampscott! We appreciate the community’s continued patience and feedback as we work through this transition and improve the new collection program. We will continue to share updates as additional information becomes available.
