Today, Susanville Indian Rancheria staff proudly wear red in honor of National Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women / Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIW/MMIP) Awareness Day.

We stand in solidarity with Indigenous families, survivors, and communities across the nation as we raise awareness for the ongoing crisis of violence disproportionately impacting Indigenous women, girls, men, boys, and Two-Spirit individuals.

This day serves as a powerful reminder that:
• More than 4 out of 5 Indigenous women experience violence in their lifetime
• Indigenous women face significantly higher rates of homicide and disappearance
• Many cases continue to go underreported or lack proper investigation

By wearing red, we honor those who are missing, remember those whose lives were taken, and support the movement for justice, visibility, and change. ✊🏼

Susanville Indian Rancheria stands with all Native communities in saying: No More Stolen Sisters. No More Silence. 🪶❤️

If you’re unable to attend tomorrow’s meeting, I’m happy to take your comments and voice them on your behalf. Any comments I can share for the Tribal community would be greatly appreciated and will help guide the discussion, as well as ensure community concerns and priorities are addressed. Each topic will have 45 minutes set aside for facilitated discussion, so there will be time to make sure your input is heard—especially regarding Housing Authority matters.

I strongly encourage community input for this meeting. The topic of Tribal Energy Sovereignty is incredibly important for our community, particularly when it comes to protecting our cultural resources and considering potential impacts from future projects.

If you can’t attend but have any priorities, concerns, or comments, please send them to me so I can share them during the meeting.

One of the main questions we’ll be addressing is:
What should SIR prioritize when it comes to Tribal Energy Sovereignty?

Some examples our department has identified (and would love feedback on) include:

• Addressing disproportionate environmental impacts on tribal lands and resources (e.g., lithium, mercury, gold, and copper mining such as Engle Mine)
• Tribal Benefits Agreements (TBA) and Community Benefits Agreements (CBA) for proposed projects
• Ethical sourcing—how materials are acquired and whether businesses are supporting or exploiting Indigenous communities
• Reduced energy rates for Tribal members
• Supporting and covering Tribal facilities
• Creating sustainable revenue opportunities
• Improving infrastructure such as streetlights
• Exploring options like electric bike stations to align with city circulation plans
• Electrifying the Upper Rancheria pump house

📍 Location: DMC Willow Room
🕗 Time: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
📅 Date: Tomorrow (4/15)

Your voice matters—please don’t hesitate to reach out!
