⚠️ Public Meeting: Hampton Roads Hazard Mitigation Plan Update ⚠️

The Hampton Roads region is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan, and community input is an important part of the process.

The plan helps identify risks such as flooding, severe storms, extreme heat, and other hazards that may impact our communities while outlining strategies to reduce future risks.

A reminder that Surry County Government Offices and Sanitation Sites will be CLOSED tomorrow, Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.

Sanitation Sites will resume normal operating hours on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Surry County Government Offices will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22, 2026.

US National Weather Service Wakefield VA: A Heat Advisory has been issued for southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. Heat indices near 105°F will make heat related illness more likely. Outside of the advisory, heat indices will reach 97-102°.

US National Weather Service Wakefield VA: Here's a look at the chance for severe thunderstorms for the next three days: Isolated showers are possible along the coast tonight, then mostly dry for Wednesday. Storm chances increase late Thursday with the potential for severe wind gusts. Risk is highest across the north where the SPC has designated a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5).
