Dove Hunting Season Opens September 1st

As dove season nears, Surprise Police encourage hunters to follow safe and responsible hunting practices, and remind neighbors to stay vigilant and report any unsafe or illegal activity.

Hunters – Please Remember:
• Do not shoot within ¼ mile (440 yards) of homes or occupied structures.
• Do not leave sh***un shells or other litter behind.
• Do not mix hunting with drugs or alcohol.

Residents: If you see unsafe activity, please report it immediately by calling 623.222.4000.

The Surprise Police Department has concluded a formal Professional Standards Unit investigation into an anomaly found during a routine audit of its Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, fully clearing the involved police officer of any system misuse.

Consistent with established department protocols, a police officer was placed on administrative leave two weeks ago while this formal review was conducted. The completed investigation confirms that the officer’s use of the system was appropriate and was conducted for legitimate public safety purposes. The officer has been fully cleared and will return to full duty status this week.

*** All lights are now working ***

All traffic lights are out at the intersection of W Peoria and N Cotton Ln. Officers and Citizens Patrol are currently directing traffic, and temporary stop signs will soon be in place. Please approach the intersection with caution and patience.

The traffic lights are expected to be out for at least four hours.

The Surprise Police Department needs our community's help in locating a missing juvenile. Rezella is 5'02" tall, 120 lbs with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in the area of N 163rd Ave and W Happy Valley Rd wearing a black wig, a green hoodie, and black jeans. It is believed she may be in or near the City of Maricopa, Arizona.

This past week, Motor Officers Graziosi and Williams better known as Surprise PD's "Motor Twins" had the opportunity to present at the Arizona Supreme Court's Annual Defensive Driving Instructor Training.

Their presentation focused on driving and ethics, sharing insight into common driving behaviors, officers encounter on our roadways and exploring an important question... Just because a driving behavior isn't necessarily illegal, does that make it ethical?

Following their presentation, the
"Motor Twins" were able to meet with Arizona Supreme Court, Chief Justice Ann Timmer.

Thank you to the Arizona Supreme Court and Chief Justice Timmer for allowing the "Motor Twins" to share their experience beyond the streets of Surprise and help advance conversations about safe, responsible and ethical driving throughout Arizona.
