Today is D-Day Remembrance Day... on June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched Operation Overlord — the massive amphibious invasion of N**i-occupied France along the beaches of Normandy. It became one of the largest and most consequential military operations of World War II, involving thousands of ships, aircraft, and ground troops across multiple nations.

The operation marked a turning point in the war in Europe, eventually leading to the liberation of Western Europe from N**i control. The fighting on the beaches — Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword — came at a heavy cost, with thousands of soldiers killed or wounded on the first day alone.

Today, D-Day is remembered not just as a military milestone, but as a moment defined by sacrifice, coordination, and courage from ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances.

It remains one of the most studied and honored events of the 20th century.

A day to remember those who never made it home.

As Sheriff of Oconto County, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the sportsman’s clubs, school districts, coaches, volunteers, parents, and community supporters throughout Oconto and Marinette Counties for your dedication to youth trapshooting programs and firearm education.

These programs represent much more than competition; they teach freedom, responsibility, discipline, respect, teamwork, and safe firearm handling. They provide young people with opportunities to develop confidence, build lifelong skills, and carry forward traditions rooted in safety, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility.

The success of trapshooting programs across our communities would not be possible without the commitment and countless hours invested by volunteers, educators, coaches, and supporters who continue to make these opportunities available for our youth.

Thank you for your leadership, mentorship, and commitment to developing the next generation of responsible sportsmen and sportswomen. Your efforts are strengthening our communities and making a lasting difference in the lives of our people.

Sincerely,
Sheriff Skarban
