Today, we pause to remember and honor the United States military members who gave their lives for our freedoms this Memorial Day.
Today's activities include the Surfside Beach Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade 2026 at 11:00 a.m. and the Memorial Day Service 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Our guest speaker is Chief Bill Mickle of the Surfside Beach Police Department Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
William Mickle is a proud disabled U.S. Marine Corps veteran who
served from 1989 to 1993, attaining the rank of Corporal. He attended boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, followed by advanced combat training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and the Military Police Academy at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
While stationed at Twenty-Nine Palms, California, he served as a
military police officer, providing security and law enforcement support. During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and assigned to a Marine Wing Support Squadron, where he participated in both air and ground combat operations in support
of coalition forces.
His military decorations include the Kuwait Liberation Medal,
Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two stars, Navy Unit Commendation, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He was also recognized with a Meritorious Mast and qualified as an expert with both the rifle and pistol.
Building on the discipline and experience gained during his military
service, Chief Mickle went on to a distinguished career in federal law enforcement, serving as a Special Agent with the U.S. Departments of Justice and Treasury, and later in leadership roles with U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement. He now serves as Chief of Police in Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
His career reflects a lifelong commitment to service, leadership,
and dedication to his country and community.
