From the Superior Police Department, we stand with agencies across Arizona in mourning alongside the Arizona Department of Public Safety following the tragic line-of-duty loss of two of their members. Our deepest condolences go out to their families, loved ones, and the entire DPS family.

🚧 US 60 CLOSED SUPERIOR AREA 🚧

US 60 will be closed between Superior and Miami (mileposts 227-243) for a bridge replacement project from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, Wednesday, Jan. 14, and Thursday, Jan. 15.

Detours:
▸Eastbound: Southbound State Route 177 through Winkelman to northbound SR 77.
▸Westbound: Southbound SR 77 through Winkelman to northbound SR 177.

**NOTE: Due to the roughly 75-mile length of this detour, drivers may want to consider planning travel before 9 a.m. and after 2 p.m. The detour is estimated to add an additional hour for trips between Superior and Miami.

UPDATE:
This evening, PCSO Search and Rescue, Superior Fire, Queen Valley Fire and BORSTAR crews reached the wreckage on foot alongside FAA investigators and confirmed four fatalities as a result of the crash. Next of kin notifications have been made to the families.
Preliminary evidence indicates a recreational slackline more than one kilometer long had been strung across the mountain range. An eyewitness who called 911 reported seeing the helicopter strike a portion of the line before falling to the bottom of the canyon.
The decedents include a 59-year-old man from Queen Creek, who was piloting the helicopter, and three female family members, ages 22, 21 and 21.
Our prayers are with the victims and their families.
The investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board is ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
