What is F.O.G.? 🤷‍♀️

➡ Fats, oils, and grease (F.O.G.) are organic materials derived from animal and plant sources. 🦆🐷🥑🧈🫒

While FOG will go down the sink drain when warm, it causes problems when it cools. 😱 When cooled, it congeals causing clogs or blockages (pictured below). As the FOG builds up, it restricts the flow in the pipes and can cause untreated wastewater to back up into homes or businesses.

👎 The result of this is human health and environmental hazards, and high costs for cleanup and restoration. 🤑

SOURCES OF F.O.G.:
• Butter, margarine, & lard
• Bacon, pork, turkey, chicken, beef, fish, lamb, & other types of animal fat
• Salad dressings, sour cream, & mayonnaise
• Olive, canola, vegetable, & other oils
• Gravy & other sauces
• Avocados

💩🌊⭐ Happy Wastewater Professionals Day! ⭐🌊💩

To honor Wisconsin wastewater professionals, Gov. Evers has declared May 22, 2026, as Wastewater Professionals Appreciation Day. 🎉

Did you know?! 🤷‍♀️
• Wisconsin is one of six national centers across the country (California, Colorado, Houston, New York, North Carolina). Learn more: https://www.cdc.gov/wastewater/about/centers-of-excellence.html
• Each site serves as a regional leader in wastewater surveillance implementation and coordination, working closely with the CDC.

Wastewater treatment facilities do important work that helps monitor for certain diseases in Wisconsin and protect waterways from pollution. 🙌

❤️ Thank you, wastewater professionals, for all that you do!! ❤️

⭐ This week kicked off our Annual 5th Grade WWTP Tour season!! ⭐

Fifth graders from Bryant Elementary and Cathedral School toured our facility and got to see our new Wastewater Process Mural! 🤩 The mural provides an overview of the entire process including where wastewater comes from and where it goes! 💩

We look forward to these tours every year and love working with the fifth grade teachers and educators! 😁🥰

🌞🌎The Earth Day Cleanup on Mortorelli Drive was so fun! 🌎 🌞

During the cleanup, students keep track of the litter data by tallying all types of trash they picked up. They picked up a total of 2,365 pieces/items of trash!😱🙌 Out of those 2,365 items picked up were 616 to***co products! Yuck! 🤢

Most found items:
🥤 Plastic pieces: 1,045
🚬 Cigarette butts: 535
🍬 Food wrappers: 153

Thank you Mrs. Correll's Fourth Graders from Cooper Elementary, Northwestern Middle and High School FACT students, and Superior Spartan High School Pledgemakers for all of your hard work! 👍😄 And to the partners that helped make today happen! Northwest Wisconsin Lung Health Alliance

Picking up that trash on the side of the road made a difference for our local stream, Faxon Creek, Lake Superior, and wildlife and plants! 🤩🌊🐟🐢🎋
