🚒SUNSET FIRE DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE

Join us on May 9th at the Sunset Community Center for a night of community and connection!

Come out and meet your local firefighters, check out our equipment, and see firsthand what it takes to protect the Town of Sunset.

We’ll also be discussing the millage and how it directly impacts our ability to serve you — from equipment and training to emergency response.

With the rising cost of everything, your support truly makes a huge difference in keeping our department strong and ready.

Today marks an important milestone for the Sunset Fire Department as we officially placed Tanker 1211 into service.

This apparatus was generously donated to our department by Lafayette Consolidated Government, and we are incredibly grateful for their support and partnership. With the rising cost of equipment, apparatus, and daily operations, this donation is making a huge impact on our department and the community we serve.

Our personnel worked hard to get Tanker 1211 ready, and today that work paid off as it is now fully in service and ready to respond when our community needs us most.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this possible. This is a great example of cooperation, support, and commitment to public safety.

For generations, the Sunset Fire Department has proudly answered the call—responding to tens of thousands of emergencies and standing ready whenever our community needed us most. From structure fires to medical calls and everything in between, we’ve always been there.

The creation of the Sunset Volunteer Fire Department was built on neighbors helping neighbors—a tradition that continues today.

Now, we’re asking for your support.

We are proposing a 10 mil tax to help sustain and improve fire protection services. We understand this is a big ask, and we don’t take that lightly. However, it’s important to note that this is the lowest millage rate in our surrounding area. Nearby communities like Arnaudville, Leonville, and the rural areas in between are currently operating at 14.2 mils.

The cost of firefighting equipment, training, and operations continues to rise every year. Small towns like Sunset are feeling that strain more than ever. This funding will help ensure we can continue providing the level of service, protection, and response that our community deserves.

We’re not just asking for support—we’re asking for the ability to continue protecting you, your family, and your property.

Please vote YES on the 10 mil.

🔥 BURN BAN LIFTED – ST. LANDRY PARISH 🔥

St. Landry Parish Government announces that the parishwide burn ban issued on February 13, 2026, has been lifted effective immediately.

Residents are still encouraged to exercise caution when conducting any outdoor burning and remain mindful of changing weather conditions.

From cribbing and glass management to hydraulic tool operations, every step we train on builds muscle memory and teamwork. The goal is simple: remove patients quickly, safely, and efficiently.

Preparation on the training ground means confidence on the scene.
