I would like to share some important statistics with the residents of Sunset.
The Town of Grand Coteau has an estimated population of 760 residents and are allotted 6 police officers. The Town of Arnaudville has an estimated population of 1,100 and are allotted eight police officers. These two town’s combined population is approximately 57% of Sunset’s estimated population of 3,260 and are protected by a total of 14 police officers. Sunset is only allotted 6 police officers who are also the lowest paid in St Landry Parish.
In Louisiana the average number of police officers per 1000 residents is 3.08. If were aspired to be average Sunset would have 10 officers and honestly that would be much better than the 6 we are currently allotted.
If you feel like I do please contact your council member and Mayor. I’m being told there just isn’t any money…
The good people of Sunset elected me to to make positive change and to ensure the safety of our residents and their property. Alternately the Mayor and the Town Council, not all but the majority, has virtually handcuffed your new Chief of Police from doing the job I promised my constituents. It would be easy to hang it up and move on with my personal life knowing what I’m up against but I swore an oath that I take very seriously.
I am committed to working with the town’s elected officials who are actually willing to work with me to figure out how we can better serve the security needs of residents who elected us.
