Watch out for sneaky text messages; you might sign up for a new Medicare plan. Offers for senior cards, flex cards, or other bonuses like food, gas, utilities, or rent are sent through text messages to get your information to switch you to a Medicare Advantage plan. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If your plan does get switched when you didn't want it to, contact the SMP.

Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001, a day that changed our nation forever. At the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County, we pause to honor the memory of all who were lost, and to thank the first responders, service members and everyday heroes whose courage carried our communities through.

Many of the individuals we serve remember that day vividly, and their resilience continues to inspire the work we do every day on behalf of Broward's older adults.

On Thursday, August 27, the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County had the pleasure of participating in the Caregiver Training and Support Workshop at the Lauderdale Lakes Alzheimer’s Day Care Center.

We were grateful for the opportunity to share valuable information on how caregivers and older adults can protect themselves from scammers, recognize red flags of elder abuse and scams, and stay prepared, informed, and empowered.

Together, we can help create safer communities where older adults feel confident, informed, and protected. 💙
