Another Question We Keep Getting:
"The new property values just came out; won’t this increase your funding?
Isn’t this “double dipping”?"

ANSWER:
No. Every number we've shared uses 2025 values.

When the County Auditor certifies the new, higher values, Ohio law (HB 920) automatically lowers the levy’s effective rate so the District collects the same dollars voters approved, about $6.07 million a year.

That's why, in the post picture, the scale gets “locked.” The house side gets "heavier", but the money side doesn't change.

The HB 920 Reduction Factor applies to the whole levy, including the new 2.50 mills.

In fact, this is already happening now. The 4.85 mills voters originally approved in 2017 now has an effective rate of 2.52 mills.

Please Note: A levy is voted as a fixed dollar amount, not a fixed millage rate.

Three Questions We Continue to Receive.

1. What do you pay now?
2. What is the increase?
3. What is the total cost?

1. You Currently Pay (the renewal):
Answer: The left stack: you already pay about $81.47 a year for every $100,000 your home is worth. It's on your tax bill now.

2. The Increase (2.50 mill increase, the only new cost):
Answer: The middle stack is the only new part: $87.50 a year, roughly $7 a month.

3. The Total Cost (renewal and increase):
Answer: Put them together and you get the left stack: about $168.97 a year after your state tax credit.

Please Note: The ballot says $176 because the law makes it show that same total before any tax credits. It does not represent any hidden extra money.

The BST&G Fire District is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of former Harlem Township Fire Chief Chris Caito on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Chief Caito dedicated 48 years to serving others as a firefighter and paramedic. He spent 35 years as a full-time member of the Upper Arlington Fire Department, retiring at the rank of Battalion Chief.

Alongside his career at UAFD, Chief Caito served the Big Walnut community for 45 years. He volunteered with BST&G from 1977 to 2003, then joined Harlem Township in 2004, where he served until 2022 and spent his final years there as Fire Chief.

Those who worked alongside Chief Caito knew him as a calm, steady, and composed leader. His dedication to the fire service and his decades of service are a remarkable accomplishment, and his impact cannot be overstated. Every firefighter he worked with or taught learned from one of the best.

Rest in peace, Chief Caito. You will be deeply missed.
