Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Sunbury Police Department joins our nation in remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost on a day that forever changed America.
We honor the law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, military members, and countless ordinary citizens who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
We also remember the first responders who survived that day but later lost their lives from illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero. Their sacrifice continues to remind us that the impact of September 11 did not end when the smoke cleared.
Twenty-five years have passed, but our responsibility to remember has not.
May we never forget those who went to work and never came home. May we never forget those who ran toward danger while others were running away. And may we never forget the unity, courage, and compassion Americans showed one another in the days that followed.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
