Update to previous post - Rescinding Transition to SCWR.

After careful consideration early on, we have decided to not merge with SCWR and retain La Tuna Canyon Fire & Rescue. We will also retain our Brush Truck dedicated to La Tuna Canyon. This will allow us to continue to have dedicated resources locally in our canyon to assist allied agencies as well as self support our community as La Tuna Canyon Fire & Rescue

Our mission is to serve our community and residents - and this will be best done within our own agency. Website and Phone number will re-activate within the next week more posts will follow regularly for updates, engagements, and news! Stay Tuned!

At approximately 12:15 AM on early Saturday morning, Calls went out for Wires Down within our canyon. About an hour before this, Los Angeles Fire Department had all resources assigned out and response times were significantly increased. While on our way to assist this incident, we noticed flash flooding had already occurred and stopped to assist traffic until LAPD Headquarters OVB came to assist. Once we were able to leave that scene, we sized up the rest of the canyon (We ensured no structures were damaged or lives in danger) and immediately ordered the canyon shut down due to several rock slides and a few land slides and flash flooding that was actively occurring making the road dangerous to travel on. City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services came to close the canyon down right below the 210 freeway and at the 9100 block.

Before the closure there was over 5 inches of rain that had fallen and rainfall rates were about 1.5 inches per hour, which triggered the Fond Fire burn scar and previous La Tuna Fire burn scars to flood out with land and rock slides which were already completely saturated.

By 8:30 AM, Street Services had reinforced the closure with proper signage and the canyon is still closed. We will advise everyone when the ETA is for reopening, but they are currently cleaning the canyon.

Thank you to LAPD Headquarters and City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services for assisting!!

You never know what you may find while out on an incident! Upon doing routine storm patrol our we provided assistance to a motorist who was uninjured in a solo traffic collision and cleared two very minor rock slides within close proximity that were posing a hazard in the eastbound lanes within that same hour keeping our communities safe.

At this time La Tuna Canyon is open. Photos during & After cleanup. Some rocks were about 18" that were cleared off the road.

Today at approximately 3PM heavy rain cells moved through our area and we responded to assess the roads for potential debris and rocks. Rainfall rates were at 1 inch per hour for a while. Fortunately no major issues to report however a downed limb from a tree on Del Arroyo was previously cleared but was still partially blocking the road. We cut the tree and moved it entirely out of the road. In addition several smaller branches and objects in our roadway were removed. Picture of tree while in progress of cutting it up. Keeping our residents and community safe!
