The IRS will not accept 1040 efile returns until February 6th due to the need to process stimulus checks. All hands on deck for the stimulus. Due to COVID issues, the free tax return sites in Kings Point and Sun City Center will not open this year. No safe space, no volunteers. At present, it is not clear whether AARP will open any free tax sites in Florida this year. Check their web site AARP.com for any new information.

The tax season starts Monday. Due to lack of personnel, this page will not be monitored this year. The old church free tax site has been moved to the Cypress Creek Assisted Living Facility at 970 Cypress Creek Blvd. Open Monday to Thursday 9 AM to 4 PM. Phone number for appointments is (813) 642-0428. No golf cart parking at this site.

They found a new site for doing taxes formerly done at the South Shore United Community Church (1501 LaJolla.
The new address is Cypress Creek Assisted Living Facility, 970 Cypress Village Blvd. appointment line is 642-0428 An announcement ran in the Observer( December 26th issue, page 14) as well as in the News( January 2020 issue, page 4).

Labor Day - Still no progress in finding a new place to do free tax returns next year. Those who got their returns done at the South Shore United Church of Christ in Sun City Center last year may have a problem. Church being sold. Still looking. Considering any option. Wish us luck!

We lost the worksite where we did 3000 free tax returns this tax season due to sale of the building. We asked the community to help us find another site as no one else nearby can do 3000 returns. We have been a recognized local club for 15 years and have served the community for more than 30 years. Our community association turned us down. Flat. Now looking elsewhere. Watch this space for next year!

This year we filed more than 5000 returns, assisted 7000 residents, generated $4.5 million in refunds, and paid an additional million dollars to residents in child tax credits and earned income credits. The IRS estimates we saved folks another million dollars in tax return preparation fees and refund anticipation loans.
This year we trained 95 residents who worked more than 7000 hours to achieve these results, making us the largest free tax preparation site in southwest Florida with the lowest IRS measured reject rate as well.
We are losing our main work site and have asked the SCC community to find us a home. Resounding silence so far. See you next year, we hope.

For the 31st year, Sun City Center Taxaide will be preparing free tax returns from February 1, 2019 until April 15th, 2019 at the South Shore United Church of Christ, 1501 LaJolla and also at the Kings Point Clubhouse, 1900 Clubhouse Drive in Sun City Center. The South Shore United Church site will be open from 9 AM to 4 PM Monday – Friday [for appointments call (813) 634-3502], starting February 1st, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM] while the Kings Point site will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM [for appointments call (813) 260-3509, during hours of operation only].
