Mr. Ragin is well qualified and ready to return to the ballot in June 2016. Shawn Ragin is a lifelong native of the Sumter Community. Raised in Pinewood, SC, Ragin graduated from the public schools of Sumter County in 2004 from Lakewood High School. He is a 2008 graduate of Gupton Jones College in Atlanta, GA. He also attended Argosy University where he primarily studied psychology. Ragin gained a
dditional education and training from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine &Health Science in the area of Forensic Pathology and Death Investigation in Advanced Topics. His mortuary science years of experience, on going death investigation experience along with training in the Clarendon County Coroner’s office, and his psychology background make him a deserving candidate for the office of Sumter County Coroner. A member of the Kingdom Impact Worship Center here in Sumter, Ragin serves faithfully as a board member and leader at his church. He also serves on other local boards and organizations. A member of Pi Sigma Eta Fraternity, Mr. Ragin finds honor in serving his community and working in the education profession. Ragin is grateful for his 2012 supporters. You may recall that the majority of Sumter county residents who saw his vision for the county and led him to a 63% popular vote in the primary, but due to third circuit court judge ruling that Ragin be removed from the ballot after the people had spoken, he was not able to fulfill the
position. He says that the past four years have given him greater opportunity to prepare and gain additional training for the Coroner’s position. He has found that there is a definite need for more proactive involvement in the community as it relates to the coroner’s office. An example would be educating our community on the types of deaths our community mostly experiences and whether it is
homicides, suicides, infant deaths, or accidents should be a focus for the Coroner’s office. All families should receive the same level of professionalism and care as it relates to the investigation of a death of their loved one. Qualified and ready to take office, Ragin says he and his team of deputies will put all families and their loves ones first. With this goal in mind, the Coroner’s Office will be able to give each individual a fair and honest investigation, regardless the cause and manner of death. Ragin ask for your support this coming June in the Democratic primary election.
