A huge thanks going out to all the supporters, door knockers, phone callers, sign holders and everyone who posted a sign in their yard or business and for those who by word of mouth asked a friend to vote for Leah Watson. This was a group effort, and the effort paid off big……WE WON!
Thank you to the residents of Sumter County who elected me to be your next Tax Commissioner. I am humbled and honored to be YOUR Tax Commissioner.
I can’t thank my amazing staff enough for all they have done. This remarkable group of Ladies have stood with me and represented the Tax Office every day! This staff is the most dedicated, hardworking, knowledgeable and efficient group I have ever worked with. The Tax Office would be nothing without them!

TAG AND TAX CLERK (FULL-TIME)
The Sumter County Tax Commissioner office is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Tag and Tax Clerk. This position performs specialized duties in the processing of title/tag applications, in the renewal of motor vehicle tags, and in the collection of property tax, mobile home tax, timber tax, and heavy-duty tax.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: accepts and processes tax payments; balances and reconciles all cash drawer transactions daily; accountable for all funds collected; obtains and records personal information for check acceptance; answers telephone to provide information and assistance; attends staff and professional meetings; computes fair market value of vehicles; maintains tag inventory; maintains the confidentiality and integrity of personal information of taxpayers and like - especially as it relates to motor vehicle personal information (state and federal laws apply).

Knowledge and skills required includes but are not limited to: knowledge of computers and job-related software programs; knowledge of customer service principles; knowledge of state tag and title laws; knowledge of tax collection principles; skills in interpersonal relations; oral and written communication.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.E.D.; ability to perform mathematical calculations. Bilingual is preferred.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one or two years.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Annual starting salary depends on qualification.
