Saturday’s forecast calls for a high around 98, Heat Index Values reaching 107 and light west winds. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain Saturday night with a low around 74. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain on Sunday with a high near 93, northeast winds around 6 mph and a low around 71. The forecast for Labor Day calls for a high around 88, a 30 percent chance of rain and a low of 69.

As our community continues to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Nation’s founding, an exhibit at the Sumter Visitors Center helps tell the story of our freedom.
The American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit is on display until Sept. 17 and is free and open to the public.
Sumter Mayor David Merchant spoke briefly during a Sept. 1 reception at the Visitors Center, which is located at Swan Lake-Iris Gardens, 622 W. Liberty St.
The exhibit is part of the American Battlefield Trust in partnership with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Larry Gamble, president of the Col. Matthew Singleton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, touted the historical accuracy of the exhibit.
Admission is free and the hours are Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
