PUBLIC SERVICES RECOGNITION WEEK 25

May 4-10, 2025
In keeping with a tradition that began in 1985, the first full week in May (May 4-10, 2025) has been designated as Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW). Public Service Recognition Week offers a meaningful opportunity to honor the unwavering contributions of public servants in federal, state, local and tribal government – past, present, and future. This year, more than ever, we need to recognize federal workers who continue to do their jobs quietly and efficiently under some less-than ideal conditions.
Public servants at all levels of government continue to persevere to deliver essential services to the American public and to create positive impacts in communities. Sadly, many people do not understand the ways that governments and these employees impact our lives. Citizens expect governments to protect our nation and our communities; maintain a strong economy; provide emergency and disaster relief; ensure what we eat and drink are safe; fight poverty and homelessness; maintain our infrastructure, parks, and recreational areas; and a host of other functions. Remember, government services make life better for all of us. Today, public servants are at the forefront helping businesses, communities, and individuals. Without public servants none of these things would be possible.
Public servants make a tangible connection between government and the people. They give new life to the values that bind our Nation together. They facilitate the general public’s way of life, giving us access to government services. Repeatedly, public servants tackle the most complex problems that our country, our states, and our communities face. They go above and beyond to show what is possible when we all work together. They are not driven by a financial bottom line; they are driven by impact.
Since the founding of our country, public servants have worked to ensure our government is the best in the world. Whether you are a current public servant are a former one, you are appreciated. Former President George H.W. Bush accurately described public service as a “noble calling.” Public servants’ achievements highlight the vital importance of government and the nonpartisan civil service to the general public. So, join me in raising your glasses to all the public servants and shine the spotlight on their work. We must not only recognize the significant challenges they face, but we should also THANK them as we go about our daily lives.
