Today, we recognize two important observances: the 251st Birthday of the United States Army and Flag Day.

Since June 14, 1775, generations of Soldiers have answered the call to serve, defend our nation, and protect the freedoms we enjoy today. On Flag Day, we also honor the Stars and Stripes, a symbol of the sacrifices, courage, and unity that define our country.

In this episode, we ride along with Cpl. Rowell to learn more about the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and the important role CIT officers play in serving our community.

CIT officers receive specialized training to respond to calls involving mental health crises, substance use disorders, and individuals experiencing emotional distress. Their goal is to help de-escalate situations, connect people with appropriate resources, and ensure individuals receive the support they need whenever possible.

Mental health challenges can affect anyone. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.

PFC Flynn recently attended the 7th Annual Co-Responders Conference in Dallas, Texas, hosted by the International Co-Responder Alliance and PAARI.

The conference brought together first responders and Co-Responders from across the country to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and explore new ways to support individuals facing substance use disorders and mental health crises.

By collaborating with agencies nationwide and participating in specialized training, attendees gained valuable insight into strengthening non-arrest deflection programs, building community partnerships, and connecting people with the resources they need. We're proud to bring that knowledge back to Summerville as we continue working to provide compassionate, effective support for our community.
