Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center KPCAC is a 501c3 non-profit organization serving abused and neglected children and their families

Dorchester Children’s Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization serving abused and neglected children and their families from Dorchester County and parts of Berkeley and Charleston Counties. Dorchester Children’s Center works in collaboration with law enforcement, DSS, Guardian Ad Litems, Mental Health and other agencies involved in caring for abused and neglected children in our community. As a c

hild advocacy center we work together with all involved agencies for the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. We work with children who may have experienced any type of abuse or neglect, such as; physical abuse, sexual abuse, child neglect (physical/medical/educational), emotional abuse, drug endangerment, witness to domestic violence, and safety precaution (threat of harm). With all agencies coming together in one location to investigate the situation it helps prevent further trauma to the child. Frequently Asked Questions:
-What is a Child Advocacy Center (CAC)? A CAC is a place that provides a child-friendly, safe and neutral location in which law enforcement and Child Protective Services investigators can have a child forensically interviewed when he/she is an alleged victim of crimes. Additionally, a CAC is where the child and non-offending family members receive support, crisis intervention, and referrals for mental health and medical treatment after experiencing child abuse.

-How much does it cost for a child to be seen at DCC? No child or family ever pays for the services the staff at DCC provides.

-How many Child Advocacy Centers are there? There are 17 CACs in South Carolina, and over 1,000 CACs across the United States

-How many children have you seen? Since opening our doors in 2003 we have seen over 15,000 children.

We were grateful to be able to attend the Tri-County Orange Walk for Gun Violence Prevention with the Bradley Blake Foundation this past weekend. 🧡

This was a powerful event with partnership from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office as well as local Police Departments and the Berkeley County Coroner's Office to provide hope and awareness surrounding this vital issue.

We were present to provide attendees with the knowledge of our grief and trauma therapy programs as well as resources on child safety. 🧡🩵

Thank you for having us out, and we look forward to being present in the future. 🩵

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a Community Awareness Luncheon for the Bastion Group, along with South Carolina State Representatives Greg Ford and Robby Robbins; Vice President of Business Development for Bushy Park, Cody Baker; and new members of our Board of Directors, Shawn Tucker, and Debra Guerry, joined by our Board President, Edward Tupper, and Vice President, Johnny Leviner.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission and raise awareness about the critical services we provide to children and families in our community.

If your organization, business, or community group is interested in attending a Community Awareness Luncheon at either of our centers, please contact Debbie at [email protected] for more information.

We're so grateful to the Summerville Exchange Club for joining us at our Dorchester Center yesterday evening for a tour, presentation, and dinner with several of their new members.

During the visit, they presented Dr. Kay Phillips with a generous $35,000 donation from proceeds raised through their Azalea Classic Golf Tournament and Azalea After Dark Party held in March.

Over the past 20 years, the Summerville Exchange Club has contributed more than $250,000 to support the Center's mission. We are incredibly thankful for their longstanding partnership and unwavering commitment to helping children and families in our community!

We are thankful for our continued partnership with the Cane Bay YMCA and can't wait to see what other new events they have in store! ✨
