At 10:54 pm, Gore Fire Department, along with Subligna and Hays Fire Departments were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 2305, Hy 27.
Apon arrival, the structure was approximately 40% involved with heavy fire venting from the roof and front entrance. All occupants were out of the building but noted several pets still inside.
During aggressive fire operations and a primary serch, 3 pets were found.
2 dogs were removed and CPR preformed for several minutes.
The third pet was found later during salvage and overhaul operations and removed from the structure.
4 of the home's occupants were transported by Floyd EMS for smoke inhalation and noted as in stable condition.
Unfortunately all three of the pets removed did not survive.
The cause of the fire was noted as electrical in nature starting at the electric water heater.

Recently a post in the Chattooga Soundoff was directed at this agency and the Chattooga County Commissioner insinuating malefices during a recent structure fire.

As Department Chief, I was contacted by prominent community leaders asking for a rebuttal to the insinuations as it was a disservice to this department and the community as a whole.

First off, I would like to note that the Chattooga Soundoff does a disservice to the reputation of the award-winning Summerville News. I am a huge proponent to the Right to free speech. The issue is the ability to have vile and narcissistic opinions published in the only weekly paper under the umbrella of supposed anonymity.

This is detrimental to the opinions of outsiders looking at our county for business or growth.

Now, to address the actual Soundoff article.

Andy Allen was an active member serving on the Corporate Board of Directors at the time of his election in 2024. After being elected, Mr. Allen formally resigned his position prior to taking office. Since his resignation, Mr. Allen has had absolutely no influence on the daily operation of this agency.

Gore Fire Department is legally bound to NOT endorse or promote ANY political Candidate for ANY public office.

The mere suggestion that a political bias would regulate how Gore Fire Department would respond or operate on an emergency call is absolutely ridicules.

Secondly, the suggestion that Gore Fire apparatus responded with no water or unable to pump water borders on defamation.

Gore Tanker 3 carries 1250 gallons of water 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our apparatus is pump tested and certified as required by State law. This certification was verified by a State Evaluator on June the 28th 2025.

Absolutely no apparatus issues were had during this emergency response.

Over 5,000 gallons of water were flowed during this particular response.

Additional resources were dispatched due to the amount of water needed and the fact that the closest fire hydrant had been out of service for several years. The hydrant issue is being addressed by the current administration.

The building and its stored materials were fully involved when fire units arrived, so a defensive mode was initiated to contain the fire to the original structure.

Lastly, the author of the noted Soundoff article obviously has a personal vendetta with Mr. Allen and possibly with our agency.

That being the case, we have an open-door policy, and he is welcome to reach out for facts vs myths prior to calling the Soundoff.

Because we know who this individual is, I would recommend he research the difference between free speech and defamation.

Quick note: Free speech is legally protected. Defamation is legally prosecuted.

Having verbal defecation published as a means to narcissistic affirmation is a disservice to all involved.

03/02/2025

Gore Fire Department is requesting all comunity members refrain from ANY outside burning for the next 5 days. High winds combined with extremely low humidity create unfavorable conditions for controlling any type of outdoor burning.
This includes Fire pits, leaf piles, trash barrels, agriculture burns, open air cooking and previously approved Fire permits.
Current condition are creating extremely high risk for uncontrollable fire containment by the general public.
Normal Fire breaks and personal monitoring of open flames are not suitable during the next few days.
PLEASE, help us, help you.
