Monday night we went over radio communications. The group was split into 2 teams and they had to work together to build a Lego airplane set. The twist was, 1 team had the instructions and the other had the Lego pieces and the had to use the radios to communicate the steps. When everything was done, they worked well together and we had a fully assembled airplane.

This is a great opportunity for junior firefighters to become certified in their first firefighting course; while living at the firehouse for 2 weeks. It's been a great opportunity for many young people over the last couple of years. Spread the word so we can get more to sign up.

They also learned and discussed the concept of the DHS run, hide, fight active shooter preparedness program. While it is a sensitive subject, it's important for them to know what to do. We're proud of our group of young adults for their performance yesterday in Columbia. We spent the morning learning about the different classes the SC Fire Academy has and then spent the afternoon competing against other Junior/Explorer Posts from the State. Even though we did not bring home a trophy, this group of young adults showed up, did their best and enjoyed the day. We can't eat until next year to return.
