Twenty-five years ago, our nation watched in disbelief as the events of September 11, 2001, changed America forever.

We remember the 2,977 lives taken that day—mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, coworkers, and strangers whose lives would forever become part of our nation’s history.

We remember the first responders who ran toward unimaginable danger while thousands ran to safety. 343 FDNY firefighters, along with law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and countless ordinary citizens, answered the call—many making the ultimate sacrifice.

Twenty-five years have passed. A generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through photographs, stories, and the memories we carry forward.

That makes our promise to NEVER FORGET more important than ever.

A huge thank you to the Four Seasons First Responder Club for their continued support and generosity!

They recently donated new chairs for our conference table, new bar stools for the day room, and new computer desk chairs for our crews. These upgrades are greatly appreciated and will make our station a little more comfortable for the men and women who call it home during their shifts.

We’re incredibly grateful to have organizations like the Four Seasons First Responder Club supporting our first responders and our department. Thank you for thinking of us!

A helpful guide to translating your local emergency responses.

🚨 There's a lot of speculation when emergency vehicles show up... We see it all the time:

"Why are there six patrol cars?"
"What's happening on my street?"
"Does anyone know what's going on?" 👀

Instead of guessing in the neighborhood Facebook group, here's your Berkeley County Emergency Vehicle Decoder.

🚓 : Someone discovered the speed limit wasn't a suggestion. Or we are answering an alarm call.

🚓 🚓 : One deputy said, "Hey... come look at this."

🚓 🚑 : Someone is having a rough day, but help is here.

🚑 : Either something is very much on fire... or someone burned dinner beyond recognition.

🚓 🐕 : Goodest boi is getting a bad man!

🚤 : Somebody forgot the lake has rules too.

🪖🚓 🚓 🚓 🚓 : Yes, this will be on the five o’clock news.

Keep in mind, the number of emergency vehicles on scene doesn't always reflect how serious an incident is. Some calls require additional deputies for safety, multiple first responders for medical care, or specialized units with unique equipment and training.

Most importantly, if we're not posting about an incident right away, it's because our deputies and first responders are focused on safely handling the situation. Once we're able to share information, we will.

This furry little visitor wandered into the firehouse today and has apparently decided we’re accepting walk-in applications for station cat. While we’re happy to provide plenty of pets and a safe place to hang out, we’re sure someone is missing this sweet kitty.

250 years ago, a handful of determined patriots signed a declaration that changed the course of history. Today, we celebrate the freedom they fought for, the communities we’ve built, and the generations who continue to protect them.

Tonight, as the sky fills with red, white, and BOOM, let’s remember that the best fireworks show is one where everyone makes it home safely.

🎆 A few Independence Day reminders:
🇺🇸 Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.
🎇 Light one firework at a time and never relight a dud.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
🚗 If you’re celebrating, designate a sober driver.
🚒 Leave the emergency responses to us—we’d much rather watch the fireworks than respond to them!

If you’re celebrating Independence Day with fireworks at home, let’s make sure everyone goes home with all ten fingers and both eyebrows.

Remember:
🧨 Use fireworks outdoors only in a clear, open area.
👨‍👩‍👧 Children should always be supervised around fireworks.
💧 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
📖 Read and follow the instructions on every firework.
🚫 Never attempt to relight a firework that doesn’t go off.
🗑️ Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them away.

And perhaps the most important safety tip of all…

It’s an M-80, a bottle rocket, a jumping jack, a whistling bu****le, a spleen splitter, whisker biscuit, ho**ey lighter, husker do, husker don’t, cherry bomb, nipsy daiser (with or without the scooter stick), or a one-eyed snake… but if you don’t know what it is, don’t light it! 😄

Celebrate responsibly, be courteous to your neighbors, keep pets indoors if possible, and remember that fireworks and alcohol don’t mix.

Another busy day is in the books for your Central Berkeley Fire & EMS crews.

From multi-company relay pumping training—where our Explorer members got hands-on experience establishing water supply from fire hydrants—to responding to a vehicle fire, it was another day spent sharpening our skills while serving our community.

Whether we’re training for the next emergency or answering the call when it comes, your CBFE firefighters are always just around the corner.
