We are incredibly proud of our Girls Who Game team for earning 🥈 SECOND PLACE 🥈 in the Girls Who Game Spring Challenge: Designing Healthy Communities with AI!
This year’s challenge asked students to answer the question:
“How can we, as young changemakers, use human-centered AI and technology to design a community that supports health and well-being for all?”
Our students responded by creating “Joie de Vivre,” a Minecraft Education world inspired by the culture, resilience, and spirit of Southwest Louisiana.
The girls researched Louisiana traditions, sustainability, environmental conservation, mental and physical health, and community care to design a city that reflected the values of our own Sulphur community. Their world included:
💙 Cajun French language preservation through AI
🌿 Parks, beaches, gyms, and community wellness spaces
♻️ Recycling and environmentally-conscious design
🍲 Soup kitchens and shelters to support vulnerable populations
🤝 Community gathering spaces to strengthen connections
🐊 Inspiration from Louisiana landmarks like Avery Island and Jungle Gardens
The team also used CodeBuilder in Minecraft Education to help create roads and structures throughout their world, combining creativity with coding and technology skills.
Most importantly, these students showed that technology works best when it supports people, culture, and community—not replaces them.
We could not be prouder of the creativity, collaboration, leadership, and heart these girls demonstrated throughout this project.
Congratulations, girls! Your hard work truly paid off, and you represented LeBlanc Middle School and our Louisiana culture beautifully.
