Saturday was a busy day for your HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT, it started at 730am as we hosted the hands on Advanced Auto Extraction for the Southwest Louisiana Volunteer Firefighter Academy Firefighter 2 class.
Firefighters learned the advanced techniques for dash displacements, roof removals, door removals, vehicle stabilization with rescue jacks and struts, and victim removal from a large vehicle on its side.
Firefighters from Hackberry, Jeff Davis Dist 3, Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, and Houston River Fd participated in the training.
Chief Dean Lappe was the lead instructor, along with Assistant Chief Justin Chandler, and Assistant Chief Gary Underwood from Wd6fd.

This afternoon Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One came to HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT to use one of the vehicles we have to train on vehicle stabilization. This is just one small example of how closely the two departments work together.

Last night during our public board meeting, the Fire Board of Commissioners took the time to join the Fire Chief, and Acadian Ambulance, in honoring a 7 year old child credited with saving his cousin's life, during a medical emergency in an above ground swimming pool. Young Carter Chretien recognized a medical emergency, rendered aid and called for help.
Carter is a true hero and it was an honor to award him the Houston River Fire Rescue Department Life Saving Award along with the Department Challenge Coin, We are all proud of Carter Chretien.

Today Houston River Fd hosted a Drafting and Water Supply class.
This class was designed not to use a hydrant, but a static water supply that is at least 50 feet away.
Firefighters from Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, Hackberry Fd, Lebleu FireDepartment, and Houston River Fire Department participated.
In one of the pictures we are flowing over 1000 gallons a minute!!
