Yesterday, we celebrated the frocking ceremony of MST1 Leser, marking a significant milestone in their Coast Guard career. Frocking is a time-honored Coast Guard tradition where sailors are granted the rank insignia of their new position before officially being promoted. MST1 Leser, whose dedication and hard work have been exemplary, donned the insignia of a higher rank, symbolizing their readiness and capability to take on greater responsibilities.

The ceremony, attended by colleagues, friends, and family, was a poignant reminder of the commitment and excellence required in Coast Guard service. Congratulations to MST1 Leser on this well-deserved recognition. Your perseverance and leadership continue to inspire us all.

International Ice Patrol...

February 7, 1914 -- Pursuant to the Convention for Safety at Sea in London, President Woodrow Wilson directed that the Revenue Cutter Service undertake the task of manning the International Ice Patrol. Henceforth, the Revenue Cutter Service and then the Coast Guard, with brief respites during both World Wars, served in this capacity, a traditional mission still undertaken to this day.

Their mission: spotting icebergs from the sky. The International Ice Patrol helps ships stay safely away from icebergs in the North Atlantic, and St. John's N.L. is their home base. Buckle up and take a ride to see how it's done.
