Commissioner Andy Meyers

Commissioner Andy Meyers Commissioner Andy Meyers serves as the County Commissioner for Fort Bend County Precinct 3.

Elected County Commissioner Pct. 3 in 1996, re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, & 2020 (Voted “Best Elected Official in the County” all four times the competition was held.) Held Financial and Management Positions with Occidental Petroleum, Texas Instruments, and Continental Oil, and was a real estate developer and a cost-control consultant for large and small businesses. Have held Certifi

ed Public Accountant, Series 7 Securities Dealers, and Real Estate Broker licenses. It has been my distinct honor to serve the residents of Fort Bend County as a County Commissioner since January 1, 1997. I have protected taxpayers by ensuring that their money is spent as prudently and as efficiently as possible. I led the effort to reduce the county tax rate from the region’s highest of 66¢ to one of the region’s lowest of 44¢, saving county taxpayers over $1 billion. I played the key role in making Fort Bend the safest and most family-friendly county in the state by initiating the county’s Sexually Oriented Business Ordinance, which has kept unsavory operations out of the county and helped combat human trafficking.

Let your voice be heard on traffic management. Tomorrow night, a public meeting is being held on the new Congestion Management Plan (CMP) — a federally required plan designed to improve travel across our eight-county transportation planning region. Congratulations to Fort Bend County MUD 162 on the opening of the Prairie Park Trail!

This is a tremendous addition to our community — and the numbers speak for themselves. The new trail adds nearly 3.5 miles of connectivity to the existing trail system, with four new entry and exit points and 8 art pieces along the way that highlight the native species you'll discover along the trail.

Three live oak trees were carefully relocated to enhance the natural beauty of the corridor, and pollinator-friendly plants — including Butterfly W**d, White Mistflower, Blue Mistflower, Cherry Sage, Mealy Blue Sage, and Gulf Coast Muhly — have been woven throughout, creating habitat for butterflies and other pollinators while giving residents a beautiful, natural experience along the way.

The trail serves both Highland Meadows and Sunrise Meadows, with ramp connections running east and west along Powerline Road.

Congratulations to the Honorable Ken Cannata on today's ribbon cutting for the Fort Bend County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Place 2 Court in Needville.

I was honored to be there and cut the ribbon alongside Judge Cannata as we officially opened the doors on this new court. As Precinct 3 continues to grow, our residents on the southern end of the precinct deserve convenient access to justice — and today we delivered exactly that.

Judge Cannata is a tremendous legal mind with a record of integrity and fairness on the bench. He came out of retirement to serve as the first judge of this newly created court, and this community is better for it. He loves the role and will be on the ballot in November.

Welcome to the bench, Judge Cannata. This community is in good hands.

I was deeply honored today when Cub Scout Pack 910 visited Commissioners Court to recognize me as their representative. The visit — and the plaque they presented — meant more than I can say. These boy and girls are learning the values of citizenship and community service at an early age, and that gives me a lot of hope for the future of Fort Bend County. Thank you, Pack 910!

This morning, members of the Precinct 3 team had the privilege of visiting Child Advocates of Fort Bend — and it was a truly inspiring start to the day.

For more than three decades, CAFB has been doing the quiet, essential work that our community's most vulnerable children depend on. Through their CASA program, trained community volunteers serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates, giving children in the foster care system a dedicated voice in court. Through their Children's Advocacy Center, they provide a safe, supportive place for child victims of abuse to be heard. And through therapy, family support, and criminal court advocacy, they help children begin to heal.

We are grateful for the dedicated staff and volunteers who show up every day for these children — and proud to have an organization like Child Advocates of Fort Bend serving the families of our community.

Explore Juneteenth history at the Fort Bend County Libraries

The Juneteenth holiday is June 19, but at the George Memorial Library in Richmond, delving into the holiday’s history begins on May 29 with the library’s history presentation, Local-History Research: The Freedom Tree, from 10:30 – 11:30 am in Room 2A of the library, located at 1001 Golfview Drive in Richmond.

This presentation will explore the connection between Juneteenth and the local Freedom Tree, located between Glenn Lakes and Lake Olympia Boulevards along Misty Hollow Drive in the Freedom Tree Park of Missouri City, Texas.

Registration is required for this event, and it closes on May 28. The event will repeat on June 10 in Room 2C of the George Memorial Library.

On June 17, from 1:30 – 4:30 pm in the Meeting Room of George Memorial, the public is invited to Juneteenth Afternoon: Film & Craft, an afternoon of film, creativity, and community, sponsored by Friends of the George Memorial Library.

The event will also feature a powerful, thought-provoking movie that honors Black history and resilience. After the film, participants can create Morse-code bracelets as a hands-on way to reflect on themes of communication, freedom, and expression. Snacks will be provided.

Later that same day, but at the Missouri City Branch Library, the public is welcome to Teacakes and Hibiscus Tea and a Movie: Juneteenth Feature Film Edition, sponsored by Friends of the Missouri City Branch Library.

Library visitors will watch a 2018 PG-13-rated film featuring the character of T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, who must step forward to lead his people into a new future and confront a challenger from his country's past.

The showing takes place on Wednesday, June 17, in the Meeting Room of the Missouri City Branch Library, 1530 Texas Parkway in Missouri City, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.

The Missouri City Branch Library will have additional Juneteenth celebration and education events for the public, including the Freedom Gardens: Juneteenth Celebration on June 5 from 2:30 – 3:30 pm in the library’s Conference Room.

Participants at this event will explore the history and cultural significance of “freedom gardens,” which served as a form of resilience, self-sufficiency, and community-building in Black American history. They will also have the chance to plant their own small container garden to take home.

On June 12, the library will host Roots & Recipes: Stories Behind the Food: Juneteenth Celebration from 2:30 – 3:30 pm in the Conference Room.

Those who wish to participate in the Roots & Recipes event are invited – but not required – to bring a favorite family recipe to share and discuss. Together, the class will explore the cultural traditions, memories, and history behind the dishes that connect people. Recipe cards will also be available to contribute to a growing community collection.

All Juneteenth events at the George Memorial Library and the Missouri City Branch Library are free and open to the public.

Fort Bend County Libraries will be closed Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 21, in observance of Juneteenth. Regular library hours will resume on Monday, June 22.

Statement from Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers

Today, some Fort Bend County voters experienced delays at polling locations due to a check-in system outage that lasted more than two hours. Voters who were unable to check in were offered the opportunity to cast a provisional ballot.

Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong indicated he would have extended voting hours, but under Texas law that decision during a primary election rests solely with the two party chairs — not the judge.

The Republican Party chairman was willing to make that request. The Democratic Party declined to pursue that option. As a result, polls closed at 7 p.m.
