Monday, August 17:
10:30 - 11:15 am Mother Goose Time - Mother Goose Time provides caregiver/infant multi-sensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. Mother Goose Time is intended for infants from 1 month to 12 months of age. Attendance limited.
2:00 - 3:30 pm University Branch Culinary Club - Join us at University Branch Library for fun featuring food! Culinary Club is a monthly potluck and recipe exchange. Join us as we sample each other’s creations, discuss our recipes, and share our experiences in the kitchen! Cook up something new that fits this month’s theme – Celebrate India. Check out our cookbook collection for inspiration. No registration required.
Tuesday, August 18:
10:30 - 11:00 am Toddle Time - Stories, songs, and action rhymes for families with toddlers aged 1-3 years. This 30-minute program will conclude with an age-appropriate, take-home craft activity. We are unable to accommodate daycares and school groups in this program.
2:30 - 3:30 pm Literary Explorers Book Club - The Literary Explorers Book Club is a nontraditional book club that brings readers together to discuss books that follow a prompt rather than having an assigned book. Each month, readers will choose a book that fulfills the assigned prompt and then come together to discuss their book choices. This month's prompt is “The Book Came First.” Read a book that has inspired a TV show or movie.
Wednesday, August 19:
10:30 - 11:00 am Toddle Time - Stories, songs, and action rhymes for families with toddlers aged 1-3 years. This 30-minute program will conclude with an age-appropriate, take-home craft activity. We are unable to accommodate daycares and school groups in this program.
6:00 - 7:00 pm Podcast Brunch Club (Sugar Land Chapter) - It's like a book club, but for podcasts! Each month, you'll listen to a playlist of episodes (2-5 hours of listening, curated by Podcast Brunch Club) on a central theme, then meet up at the library for a discussion (on the third Wednesday of the month). Monthly playlists come out on the first of every month. Check the Podcast Brunch Club homepage (https://podcastbrunchclub.com/) after the first of the month or sign up for their newsletter to have it emailed to you. After the playlist is released, you can find the playlist here in this event page. No registration required. Happy listening!
7:00 - 8:00 pm Pajama Night Story Time - Stories, songs, and action rhymes for families with children of all ages. This children's program will conclude with an age-appropriate take-home craft activity. Pajamas and blankets are welcome!
Thursday, August 20:
10:30 - 11:15 am Preschool Story Time - Stories, songs, action rhymes, and a movie for families with preschool children aged 3-6 years. This 45-minute program will conclude with an age-appropriate take-home craft activity. We are unable to accommodate daycares and school groups in this program.
3:00 - 4:00 pm Amigurumi Afternoon - Join us for a cozy hour of yarn crafting every Thursday afternoon! Whether you’re stitching up adorable amigurumi creations or just love to crochet, enjoy an afternoon of crafting camaraderie. Beginners to experts are all welcome. If you are a beginner, you will learn some basic techniques of crochet. Experienced crocheters are invited to bring a current project and share ideas with us. Crochet crafters will find a friendly space to create, chat, and connect. No registration required.
Friday, August 21:
10:00 am - 12:00 pm Senior Series - Presented by Liz McNeel, Keller Williams and Founder of Houston Senior Living Institute.
Senior Series is a series of conversations with local experts focused on the unique and complex housing-related issues facing mature homeowners and their families. This month’s topic is Whole-Person Health & Thriving As We Age.
This program is geared toward older adults and their family members. It is free and open to the public. No registration required.
2:00 - 4:00 pm Craft Squad Social - Craft Squad is a weekly meetup for crafters and artists of all skill-levels. Bring whatever project you’re working on (and your supplies) and enjoy the company of other crafty people. Share your work, your tips and tricks, and get inspired by others. We have some basic craft supplies on hand for your use, but you should supply the majority of the materials you know you will need. If you are an artist, crafter, or adult-coloring enthusiast, and are sick of crafting alone at your house, this is the program for you. Come craft with us! Craft Squad is a crafting club for adults; we ask that you do not bring children with you. No registration required.
Saturday, August 22:
11:00 am - 2:00 pm Life All-Stars - 1) Recruit "Striving-to-Thrive" Youth (grades PreK-5) from Fort Bend County, Texas, that are eligible for the Free/Reduced-Price School-Lunch Program and provide them with 6 (six) Age-Appropriate Financial Education lessons per year.
2) After they have completed 3 lessons in a calendar year, participants earn credits (up to $500/participant/year) which are invested in the low-cost Vanguard S&P 500 Large Cap ETF (VOO).
3) Upon reaching the age of majority (age 18 in Texas), the Life All-Stars gift the accumulated funds to the participant to provide for their welfare/needs or further investment.
