EMS Week: Improving Outcomes, Together
When Mr. Neely went into cardiac arrest at home, the chain of survival began immediately.
His family quickly recognized something was wrong and called 911. Sugar Land dispatcher Muhammed Asif provided critical instructions over the phone, helping guide Mr. Neely’s daughter as she began CPR. Sugar Land Police Officer Ryan Barton arrived and continued CPR until crews from Station 2, B Shift took over.
From there, our crews provided advanced care and recognized that Mr. Neely could be a candidate for ECMO, a specialized life-support treatment used in certain cardiac arrest cases. He was transported to the hospital, where the medical team provided definitive care. Thanks to each link in that chain, he made an excellent recovery.
Last week, Mr. Neely stopped by Station 2 to meet the crew who helped care for him.
His story is a powerful reminder of what “Improving Outcomes, Together” means. From family members and dispatchers to police officers, firefighters, paramedics, nurses, physicians, and hospital teams, it takes everyone working together to give patients the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
