With the hot weather we’ve been experiencing, the Village would like to remind everyone to take a few extra precautions while enjoying the outdoors.

Remember to stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat, check on neighbors and loved ones, and make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and a cool place to rest. 🐾💧

FCHD practices an integrated pest management approach to mosquito control.
This includes trapping for adults, dipping for larvae, treating standing water with larvicide, draining breeding sites when possible, and spraying to kill adult mosquitoes when needed. Mosquito spraying occurs, weather permitting, at dusk by an FCHD employee in a clearly marked vehicle.
This week's mosquito spraying schedule:
-Monday: Baltimore
-Tuesday: Sugar Grove, Lancaster Campground, Carroll & Waterloo Rd (Violet Twp.)
- Wednesday: Pleasantville, Thurston & Leib's Island

WEST NILE VIRUS UPDATE & CLARIFICATION ❗️

We would like to clarify the information shared yesterday regarding the confirmed detection of West Nile Virus.
The confirmed detection reported by the Fairfield County Health Department was in Lancaster — NOT in the Village of Sugar Grove.

The Village shared the Health Department's notification as a public health advisory so that our residents would be aware of the confirmed activity within our area and could take appropriate precautions.
The Village of Sugar Grove continues to participate in the Fairfield County Health Department's annual mosquito control program. Mosquito spraying began earlier this summer and will continue according to the seasonal spraying schedule.

We also recognize that the significant rainfall and flooding our area has experienced this month have created standing water and made normal property and lawn maintenance more difficult for everyone. Unfortunately, these same conditions can also create favorable mosquito-breeding areas.

We are asking residents to help reduce mosquito activity throughout the Village by:

Removing or emptying containers that hold standing water
Checking buckets, flowerpots, toys, tarps, gutters, tires, and other areas where rainwater may collect
Keeping grass and vegetation maintained as conditions allow
Changing water in birdbaths and outdoor pet bowls regularly
Using appropriate mosquito repellent and taking additional precautions during peak mosquito activity

At this time, the information provided to the Village by the Fairfield County Health Department identifies Lancaster—not the Village of Sugar Grove—as the location of the confirmed West Nile Virus detection.
We will continue to share information provided by the Fairfield County Health Department that may be important to the health and safety of our residents.

The Fairfield County Health Department has identified mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus in Lancaster during routine monitoring.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions to help prevent mosquito bites, including using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing when outdoors, and removing standing water around your home.
