A snake found a sleeping porcupine. It wrapped itself around it. It felt warm, safe, perfect. Then, the porcupine woke up. Its sharp quills rose instantly.
The snake felt pain. But instead of letting go, it squeezed even tighter. The tighter it held, the deeper the quills pressed. Still, it refused to release its grip.
It believed holding on would somehow make things better. It didn't. The pain only grew worse. In the end, the snake lost everything. Not because of the porcupine, but because it refused to let go.
In psychology, this is called trauma bonding. Some people stay attached to relationships that keep hurting them.
They mistake pain for love, and suffering for loyalty. Remember this: sometimes the strongest thing you can do isn't holding on. It's walking away.

Military Moms Lift Others 💙

There is something special about the friendship between military moms.

We understand the pride. The worry. The waiting. The missed holidays, late night phone calls, deployments, homecomings and all the emotions that come with loving someone who serves.

Sometimes the greatest encouragement comes from another military mom saying, “I understand. I’ve been there, too.”

That connection can turn strangers into friends and friends into sisters. We celebrate the good days together, encourage one another through the difficult ones, and remind each other that we never have to walk this journey alone.

That is what Blue Star Mothers of America is about. Finding friendship, belonging and a community of military moms who lift one another up. 💙🇺🇸
