On Thursday November 17th, Suffield Firefighters Association President Al Golden along with Treasurer and past President Tom McCabe presented Danielle Annibalini, Executive Director of Suffield Community Aid with a check for help in providing relief for those persons and families in need in town this holiday season. This is one of two checks the Association can present on behalf of its members, and it is made possible through the thoughtful and generous donations from our residents and friends to the Suffield Firefighters Association throughout the year.

Your donations enable us the ability to continue our mission of public education, Firefighter training, and various community outreach programs and events. We thank you and wish you a safe and joyous Thanksgiving!

This evening the Suffield Firefighters Association recognized Captain Ron Carlson for 50 years of dedicated service. Captain Carlson joined the Fire Department on this day, September 13, 1971.

He has served as a firefighter, Lieutenant, and Captain of the Department's Station 3. In addition to his service to the Town of Suffield, he is well known to many as "EDITH", for his work in fire prevention at the elementary schools, and tirelessly giving thousands of hours of service to our residents. Captain Carlson was formally acknowledged earlier this year at our annual awards ceremony, but it was of great importance to us to note today's date, Ron's entry into the fire service and for his dedication to our Town of Suffield.

Thank you Captain Carlson for your dedication, leadership, and all that you have given. It is important to also thank Captain Carlson's wife Karen, for her continued support throughout his time with the Department.

On Sunday, December 20th, assisted by Members of The Suffield Fire Department and Firefighters Association, Santa made some surprise visits to the children of Department members. Having to cancel the Children's Christmas party this year due to the pandemic, Santa was still able to find a creative way to continue a generations' old tradition. You may have seen the Engine around town decorated specially for Santa's big appearance, as he traveled down some local neighborhood roadways. Many thanks to the Department members who were able to assist in continuing to spread holiday cheer!

On January 20th, Firefighters from Suffield and East Granby Fire Departments met at Hocon Gas, South Street in Suffield for a review of propane emergencies. Led by Branch Manager Kevin Viering, the evening covered a review of a variety of topics. Members reviewed and discussed possible situations in which we would respond for a variety of emergencies such as homeowner tank or appliance issues, leaking tanks, valves and equipment, piping, issues to look for during the performance of our duties, and finally emergencies involving delivery vehicles. The leadership and members of both departments wish to thank Kevin and Hocon Gas for thier hospitality, training, and use of thier facilities.

On Saturday, December 28th at 1:54 am, Suffield Fire Department was notified of a working fire at 451 Lake Road. Upon arrival, a working fire was confirmed by the first engine, Engine 3. This summoned an additional call for personnel, as well as a call for mutual aid form neighboring departments. This location was secluded and removed from an available water source. While crews went to work establishing a water supply, firefighters utilized tank water from Engine 3, Engine 2 and a Southwick engine to cool a neighboring residence and exposure. The original fire building was approximately 90 percent involved upon crews arrival, and the focus became protecting existing exposures. After prolonged operations and overhaul, crews cleared the scene around 6 am. Engine 2 remained on scene throughout the morning to assist the Suffield Fire Marshall and State Fire Marshall's office as they began their investigation. There was noone in the residence at the time of the fire. Suffield Fire Department wishes to thank its mutual aid partners for their assistance, Connecticut Air National Guard, East Granby Fire Department, Lost Acres Fire Department (Granby, CT), Southwick (MA) Fire Department, and the Windsor Locks Fire Department which provided station coverage and covered the town while we worked on Lake Road.
