In our ongoing effort to keep people aware of the internet/phone scams that occur and touch the Town of Suffield we have a new one to report. A member of the Suffield community contacted Chief Canon today to make us aware of the following:

A person calling from a number that looked like the Suffield PD contacted this person and claimed to be Chief Canon. The scammer told them we were investigating their immigration status and started to try and carry on the false call. The person who reported the incident to us skillfully got off the phone and called Chief Canon to report the incident.

Be aware that the Suffield PD will never make phone contact with any person regarding any inquiry into their immigration status. The next step in these scams is to demand money to satisfy some application process or to avoid arrest and deportation. If you receive a call of this nature please do not pay any money to anyone, exit the conversation and report the incident to the Suffield PD.
