🚨Tonight 7/8 @ 6:15PM🚨 The Orangetown Planning Board is deciding on how to move forward with DataBank's Phase II Application for a massive AI data center. Even though the Town Supervisor raised a resolution for a moratorium for one year, that review and decision are STILL IN PROCESS! It is important for everyone concerned to attend tonight to make sure that DataBank’s Phase II proposal doesn’t slip thru before a moratorium is in place!

One year moratorium status:

* June 9th - Adopting resolution #257 accepting proposal /AKRF/data center review/prepare moratorium law for consideration. Town Board Mtg Minutes can be found in the comments ⬇️

*June 23rd- Adopting resolution #287 accepting revised proposal/amend resolution #2026-257/AKRF/data center and battery energy storage review/prepare moratorium law for consideration. Town Board Mtg Minutes can be found in the comments ⬇️

Today’s Supreme Court ruling in Mullin v. Doe is devastating for over 184,000 Haitians that call New York home, including nearly 17,000 of our neighbors in Rockland and Westchester.

We stand with them and we ask you to do the same. Please consider supporting the groups doing the real work of education and protection for our Haitian communities:

-Konbit Neg Lakay
-Haitian American Nurses Association of Hudson Valley NY
-Rockland County Haiti Relief
-Haitian American Professional Women Alliance

The primary is over and NY17 has its candidate - congratulations Cait Conley .

If your candidate didn’t win, we feel that. Truly.

But here’s what keeps us up at night: the people in this district who cannot afford another two years of Mike Lawler. Immigrants. Families on Medicaid/SNAP. People who depend on Good Samaritan and Montefiore Nyack staying open. The LGBTQIA+ community whose rights, safety, and healthcare are on the line. They don’t get the luxury of sitting this one out.

Neither do we.

We will be pushing Cait hard on all the issues that matter to this community. That’s our job and we’re going to do it. But we need everyone in the room to do it effectively.

A protest vote in November doesn’t send a message to the Democratic Party. It sends Mike Lawler back to Washington.

We’re better than that. And the people depending on us deserve better than that.

Congratulations again to - we will stand with you 100% to unseat Mike Lawler in November.

A huge thank you and a hard race well run to all of the candidates: Beth Davidson, Effie Phillips-Staley, Mike Sacks and John Cappello

Running for office is hard and we appreciate you all putting in tremendous effort and time away from your families to work for this district.

The Town is considering a temporary data center moratorium, a pause to study the real impacts before more of these projects land in our backyard: the energy demand, environmental, economic impacts, the noise, the wetlands, etc.
A temporary pause is the right step, But as proposed, it would study future data centers while letting DataBank Phase II move forward. That carves out the one project already at our doorstep. It studies the danger and exempts the source.
Here is what should alarm everyone. The only thing said to make this project "permitted" is a 17-year-old, decision attributed to a building inspector from years ago. A position from nearly two decades ago is being used to wave through a massive data center today next to a protected reservoir, around the Town's own current plan. That is not following the rules. That is sneaking past them.
The Town's own 2023 Comprehensive Plan says data centers are not a permitted use here. The Town's consultant agrees. Rockland County agrees. A 17-year-old decision ( where no record of it has been provided) cannot override the plan the Town board adopted in 2023.
And there is no legal reason to leave Phase II out. It has no final approval and no building permit. The Town can lawfully include this project. It should.
A temporary moratorium that protects the developer instead of the community is not protection at all.
So we are asking for one thing, plainly. Include DataBank Phase II in the temporary moratorium. The same rules. The same scrutiny. For everyone.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Happy Pride Month.

While all eyes are on Delaney Hall and the media horrors never cease, let's be clear about what's actually happening and why it matters during Pride Month and every day after.

Pride didn't start as a celebration. It started as a riot. LGBTQIA+ activists fought, bled, and died for the right to exist with dignity.

That same fight is still alive right now.

So don't pick just one thing to defend. Use this month to make noise every👏single👏day👏. Call your reps about trans rights. Demand immigration reform. Push back on the gutting of voting rights and the proposed mail-in ballot changes.

Every one of these attacks chips away at the freedom Pride was built on. The activists who came before us didn't fight this hard for us to stay quiet.
