If anyone has been around Makenzie for any length of time, you know her passion for wildlife and conservation. Even from an early age she found beauty in nature and developed a strong curiosity about the world around her. The Chattahoochee Forest National Fish hatchery held its annual Veterans’ Appreciation Fishing rodeo today. The weather held off and gave us a beautiful day to fish. We had 48 Veterans register today, but know there were more down the creek. Prizes were given out today with a top prize of a half day float trip with Andrew Bruce from Lake Blue Ridge outfitters. Andrew is also a Veteran of the British military. Andrew has provided the grand prize for several years now. Lunch was provided by the Blue Ridge Dairy Queen and Friends of the Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery. The hatchery recognized the oldest veteran there today at 94 years young, the youngest veteran there at 28, and the veteran who travelled the farthest to come fish. 500 miles. Each of them received a hatchery challenge coin. The Hatchery staff would like to give a big shoutout to The Blue Ridge chapter and The Chattahoochee/Noontootla chapter of trout unlimited for all their tireless hardworking and dedication. We couldn’t put these on without you. We would like to Thank the Friends of the Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery for all their hard work and support. Couldn’t do these events without them. Would also like to Thank the Georgia Department of Veteran Services for coming out today. Would like to thank Conner Land, field representative for Congressman Andrew Clyde and Hope Iglehart, North Georgia Outreach Coordinator for Senator Jon Ossoff for coming out today and speaking to the Veterans. Last but not least would like to thank the Staff of Chattahoochee Forest NFH for providing the fish and getting the hatchery looking good for the event.
