Here's another Grand Marais wild seedling apple. The flesh reminds me of a Whitney Crab since it's white, soft, and mildly sweet with some pink staining. However, this was a medium size apple. Again, zero scab.

We did some wild seedling sampling today by Grand Marais, MI. There were many, many trees along the roads. It's kinda overwhelming. Here's one we enjoyed. It had white, crisp, and juicy flesh with green and pink staining. The flavor was sweet. It would be a great snacking apple. Amazingly, zero scab. I'll post a few more later.

Magnum Bonum originated in Davidson County, North Carolina in 1828. The apple is of high quality and attractive. Many southern nurseries called it “the king of all fall apples”. Its flesh is white, tender, juicy, fine grained, aromatic, and mildly subacid.

Happy Tuesday!
I'm always amazed at the beauty of the apples from our microclimate. I included a picture if this variety from a well known nursery for comparison. Myra Red Fuji is a sport/mutation of Fuji. It was found growing in an orchard in British Colombia, Canada. It's larger than Fuji, stores longer, ripens a bit earlier, hardier, and keeps longer.
