2026 FALL CURBSIDE YARD WASTE COLLECTION
The Village of Sturtevant Department of Public Works will begin fall curbside yard waste collection the week of September 28, 2026.
Fall Collection Weeks
September 28 – October 2
October 12 – October 16
November 2 – November 6
Final late-fall collection: weather permitting
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
SET OUT DEADLINE: All yard waste must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. Monday of the collection week.
ONE PASS PER STREET, PER COLLECTION WEEK: Crews will make one pass down each street during each scheduled collection week. Materials placed out after crews have passed your street will not be collected until the next scheduled collection week.
SEVERAL DAYS TO COMPLETE: Depending on workload and leaf volume, it may take several days for crews to work through the entire Village.
Leaf Placement
Rake leaves into uniform piles in the gutter area along the curb.
Leave a small gap between the curb and the leaf pile to allow rainwater to flow along the curb line.
Keep leaf piles out of the traveled portion of the street so they do not interfere with traffic.
Do not block storm drains or catch basins.
Leaves must be free of sticks, branches, and other debris.
Keep piles clear of parked vehicles and low-hanging branches so collection equipment can safely reach them.
Brush and Branches
Keep brush separate from leaf piles.
Maximum branch size is 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length.
Parking and Access\
Please do not park vehicles in front of or immediately adjacent to yard waste piles. DPW crews will not collect material that cannot be safely reached and will not return after vehicles are moved.
Weather and Operations\
Snow and ice control operations take priority over yard waste collection. Late-fall collection may be delayed or cancelled due to winter weather conditions.

Yard Waste Site – Labor Day Weekend Closure
Please be advised that the Village Yard Waste Site will be CLOSED Saturday, September 5, 2026, for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The Village collection calendar incorrectly indicates that the site will be open on September 5. We apologize for the error and any inconvenience this may cause.
As a reminder, Wednesday yard waste hours have concluded for the season, as they normally end after August.
The Yard Waste Site will resume its regular Saturday hours from 8:00 a.m. to Noon beginning September 12 and continuing through November 21.

Public Works Notice – Chicory Creek Subdivision

Crack filling operations will take place Wednesday, August 26, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Please remove all vehicles from posted streets by 7:00 AM Wednesday and keep vehicles off the streets until work is completed. Expect temporary traffic pattern changes and use caution to avoid fresh material.

No Parking signs will be removed following completion of the work.

Tree Branch & Yard Waste Reminder

Tree Branch & Yard Waste Reminder
The Village DPW completed storm debris cleanup several weeks ago. However, we have recently noticed tree branches and yard waste continuing to be placed on the parkway and in the curb line for collection.
Please be advised that storm debris collection has ended. DPW will not be making additional curbside pickups. In addition, branches and yard waste placed in the curb line create hazards and prevent our street sweeper from effectively cleaning the streets.
Residents are responsible for disposing of tree branches, brush, grass clippings, and other yard waste at the Village Yard Waste Site.
Yard Waste Site Schedule\
🌿 Wednesdays: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM (through August 26)\
🌿 Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (through November 21)
Please note: Johns Disposal does not collect yard waste left at the curb or on the parkway. Yard waste must be taken to the Village Yard Waste Site during the posted operating hours.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation in keeping branches and yard waste off the parkway and out of the gutter line. This helps keep our streets clean, allows the street sweeper to operate effectively, and enables DPW crews to focus on providing other essential services throughout the Village.

⚠️ BRAUN ROAD CLOSURE: Aug 3-7
Starts 8AM on Monday and spans between 90th St and STH 31.

Union Pacific Railroad will be repairing the track crossing. Vehicles will NOT be able to cross the tracks during the closure.

UPDATE: First Street/Highway 195 is the suggested detour. Detour map is updated to show the new route.

Access to homes on Braun Rd will be maintained on both sides of the closure. The work schedule is weather dependent.

This repair, led by Union Pacific, will result in a smoother drive over the railroad tracks. The Village is currently in the planning stages for a separate reconstruction of Braun Road, and is partnering with Union Pacific to incorporate additional track improvements in that future project.

Big Belly Deli will have sandwiches and snacks available ($), DJ Big Ron will be playing our favorite tunes and the patrol dog bouncy house will be set up! Free popcorn and kids craft while supplies last. Woof Gang Rescue will be attending with some fur babies to snuggle and Racine County Share and Swap will join us too!
