PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
City of Sturgis Public Works Dept– Sewer Rehabilitation (CIPP Lining) Project

The City of Sturgis Public Works Dept. would like to notify residents, businesses, and motorists of upcoming sanitary sewer rehabilitation work that will occur throughout various areas of the community beginning May 20, 2026 and continuing through approximately June 13, 2026.

This project utilizes Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining technology to rehabilitate existing underground sewer mains without the need for extensive excavation. The process improves the structural integrity and lifespan of the sewer system while minimizing disruption to streets and surrounding properties.

Project Schedule

Cleaning & CCTV Inspection Work Begins: May 20, 2026
CIPP Lining Operations Begin: May 27, 2026
Anticipated Project Completion: June 13, 2026

What Residents Can Expect

During construction activities, residents may experience:

Short Term Service Disruption
Temporary lane closures and traffic control
Intermittent parking restrictions near work zones
Short-duration access delays near active manholes
Construction equipment and crews in the area
Temporary odors associated with the CIPP curing process

Traffic control devices and flaggers will be utilized as necessary to maintain safe traffic flow and access to homes and businesses. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

City Sturgis Administrator Jordan and Mayor Pro Tempore Dargatz authorized relocating the cardboard drop-off site to the Sturgis Rubble Site in an effort to better manage the program and ensure it can continue serving our residents effectively.

All City of Sturgis residents with an active utility account may use the cardboard drop-off site free of charge by presenting a current utility bill. Individuals without an active City utility account will be subject to a minimum $10.00 disposal fee.

The City of Sturgis is proud to provide this recycling service at no cost to our residents. However, with the closure of similar cardboard collection locations throughout the Black Hills region and surrounding communities, the Sturgis site has experienced a substantial increase in use from outside of our community. Unfortunately, the volume and associated costs have reached a level that is no longer sustainable for our community to support alone.

We understand this change may cause inconvenience for some users, and we sincerely appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work to maintain this service for Sturgis residents. These adjustments are necessary to help ensure the program remains available, manageable, and financially responsible moving forward.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
