akota, encompasses 3,100 square miles with a student population of 3,059.81 (2022 State Aid Fall Enrollment). The district office is located in Sturgis, which is home to Sturgis Elementary School, Sturgis Williams Middle School and Sturgis Brown High School. Other schools include Piedmont Valley Elementary School and Stagebarn Middle School in Piedmont & Summerset and Whitewood Elementary School in Whitewood. There are also five K-8 rural schools: Atall School, Elm Springs School, Central Meade County School, Hereford School and Opal School. Students come first in Meade School District 46-1 where all actions are guided by what is best for students. Caring, competent and creative staff offer an academically challenging and diverse curriculum while meeting each student’s needs. The staff model and teach responsible decision-making while helping build student skills and knowledge needed for life in an ever-changing world.
