I continue to receive questions regarding Curtâs video and the insinuation that I had something to do with the release of his records because it occurred around the time I announced my campaign.
To be very clear, that claim is false and unsupported by facts. All employees, including Curt, are notified when their records are requested through an open records request and who made the request. Whoever released Curtâs records knows how and why those records were released. In my opinion, they should own their decision, especially when the release of those records has since been used to question the transparency and truthfulness of other candidates.
Anticipating that allegations like this could arise, I contacted County Corporation Counsel once I decided to run and asked them to handle all open records requests involving candidates, including myself. They agreed and have been handling those requests. I am not even made aware of every request; typically, I am only made aware of those involving information I may personally possess. Otherwise, another member of the Sheriffâs Office assists with locating the records. I made that decision intentionally to ensure these requests were handled consistently, appropriately, and independently of my campaign.
I have been the target of criticism and attacks for months, and I understand a certain amount of it comes with holding an elected position. Criticism for something Iâve actually done, something someone believes I should have done or done differently, or even actions involving Sheriffâs Office staff are all part of the job. I wouldnât expect everyone to agree with me one hundred percent of the time. Some would say thatâs what I signed up for; there is a bit of truth to that and I would agree to a certain extent.
I understand criticism comes with holding elected office, and I accept that. But I will continue to focus on the facts and on serving our community. If anyone has questions or concerns, Iâm always willing to have a conversation.
