The Door County Highway Department will begin a road reconstruction project on CTH T, from State Highway 42/57 to the Lily Bay Boat Launch. The project will consist of cutting of driveways and intersections, pulverizing existing asphalt, grading and compaction, paving, shouldering, and centerline striping.

The saw cutting of driveways and intersections, along with pulverizing will take place the week of June 1, 2026. Grading and compaction will follow. Paving is scheduled to start the week of June 15, 2026 and will take about two weeks. After a short cure period the road will then be shouldered and centerline stripped.

Every effort will be made to keep access open to traffic as much as possible throughout the construction project. Paving operations may require lane closures, flagmen will be used to control traffic. An oil adhesive will be applied between the two lifts of asphalt so we ask you adhere to flagman and do not driving on the oil surface.

The expected completion date, without the centerline striping, is July 9, 2026. As with any road construction project, the work is controlled by favorable weather. We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur. Please be advised to use caution when traveling around road construction equipment and crews and obey all signage.

The week of April 20 - 24, 2026 is
NATIONAL WORK ZONE AWARENESS WEEK

Below are sevearl work zone safety tips as posted by WisDOT

- Eliminate distractions like eating, drinking, talking on the phone, or fiddling with electronic devices.
- Expect the unexpected. Speed limits may be reduced, traffic lanes may be changed, and people and vehicles may be working on or near the road.
- Slow down. A car traveling 60 mph travels 88 feet per second, and the faster you go the longer it takes to stop. Give yourself room. Rear-end collisions are the most common work zone crashes, so don’t tailgate. Allow yourself about four seconds of braking distance. At 60 mph, this equates to about 350 feet.
- Look for signs. Orange, diamond-shaped signs usually give you ample warning of lane closings, construction areas, and flaggers and other workers ahead.
- Be patient. If you don’t see workers, that doesn’t mean they’re not there. Observe the signs until you see one that says you’ve left the work zone.
- Plan ahead. Leave early or map out an alternate route. Find the latest road conditions and work zone news at 511 Wisconsin.
Follow the law. Slow down and move over, if possible, when you see flashing lights.

Please help protect our workers and yourselves by following these simple guidelines.

UPDATE TO POST : Several people have asked about the location of the photos and locations of other closed roads:

This particular photo is on CTH T in Valmy. We did not originally share the specific location of the photo because there are other areas of concern too and we do not want it to appear that this is the only location. We are not able to currently determine all locations and do not know all roads affected yet since the water levels are still high and some roads are still covered making us unable to assess all the issues. The road closed locations are also actively changing as water levels are changing - both increasing in some areas and receeding in others. We will not know all areas affected until water levels decrease enough so we are aware of new undermined areas.
Our main concern is that people do not drive or walk in the areas where roads are closed as they may be unsafe due to several factors. If you see an area that looks unsafe and is not blocked off, please report it to our department and stay away from the area.

ORIGINAL POST
The Door County Highway Department is reminding everyone to please abide to any road closed signs in place. Signs are put up in areas where roadways are flooded, not only because of the water on the roadways, but because the integrity of the road, or the area surrounding it and below it may be compromised.

We have seen many road closed signs moved to the side and have seen people driving around them. We are reminding everyone that these signs are not put up as an inconvenience but to ensure the safety of everyone.

Below are a few pictures of a road where the culvert has washed away and is not safe to travel on.
