🌿 SW PRONG MANATEE POCKET RESTORATION WORK 🌱 Our Environmental Resources Division will begin initial invasive vegetation removal activities associated with the SW Prong Manatee Pocket STA/Restoration Project on Friday, August 28.

This first phase will focus on the mechanical removal and treatment of invasive and nuisance vegetation within the project area. Removing invasive vegetation is an important first step in restoring native wetland habitat, improving ecological function and preparing the site for future restoration activities.

Visitors may notice county staff, contractors and heavy equipment working in the area. Temporary noise and limited access to portions of the site may occur while this work is underway.

👏 WHEN THE COMMUNITY NOTICES YOUR WORK ❤️ Our Capital Projects team recently received an awesome letter of recognition from a resident for the work being done on the Rocky Point Neighborhood Restoration Project. Here’s an excerpt from the letter:

“We want to extend our appreciation for the exceptional work being done on the drainage and road improvements throughout our community. The professionalism, organization, and steady progress have been evident at every stage of the project, from the very start in the planning stages and on through the project development through to today.”

Did you know the mosquito is considered the world’s deadliest animal? While tiny, mosquitoes can spread serious diseases that pose a significant threat to public health.

World Mosquito Day, observed every year on August 20, commemorates Sir Ronald Ross’ groundbreaking 1897 discovery that female Anopheles mosquitoes transmit malaria to humans. Today, the day serves as an important reminder of the health risks associated with mosquito-borne diseases and the importance of prevention, research and education.

Here in Martin County, our Mosquito Control team is working year-round to protect our community — from sentinel chickens and drones to tire drives, surveillance and public outreach. 🐔🦟🚁

Because when it comes to mosquitoes, prevention is our best defense.

🌊💪 PLANNING FOR A RESILIENT FUTURE 🌊💪 Martin County is working with residents to plan for a more resilient future. Environmental Resource Engineer Amy Eason is leading the development of Martin County’s Adaptation Plan, which will identify strategies to address sea level rise, flooding and other coastal hazards.

At a recent community meeting, residents in one of the neighborhoods identified as vulnerable had the opportunity to learn more about the plan, ask questions and share their experiences and feedback. Their local knowledge is an important part of helping Martin County evaluate potential solutions and plan for safer, more resilient neighborhoods.

Grant funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is supporting Martin County’s efforts to develop a long term adaptation plan that addresses expected local hazards and strengthens community resilience.
