What does transparency in the County Clerk’s Office mean? Every expense in the county is written in the minutes of the Board of County Commissioners and then posted in the newspaper. Every bit of inventory that is made surplus and then disposed of whether by selling or transferring or junking is written in the minutes. Land records all the way back to the land run are open to the public. Financial statements, employees’ annual salary, budget and audit reports are all available. It is statutory that county government is transparent, but some things are protected like court cases and employee files, write-ups, and employee incidents. As Head over the HR Department, I take pride in keeping the confidential information confidential.

Last, but certainly not least, the newest member of my team is Pam Jones, my Accounts Payable clerk!! A little back story for you is that when I offered Pam this job, she said she could do cartwheels because she was so excited! I never got to see her do that, but I have no doubt that she could!! She is, without a doubt, inspiration to all of us in the office. She has a story for every scenario and we love to listen!! With her don’t quit attitude, she has shown us all that she is a great asset to our office! We think the world of her!! 🩷

Spotlight on Becky McCay Johnson, my Administrative Assistant! Becky brings her organization skills to the office and is a life saver when my workload overflows. Just to name a few of her duties, she helps to prepare for meetings, she helps with Purchasing, and she helps in Payroll. She’s also our notary for the office. On top of all that, Becky is my Second Deputy! She’s a hard worker and makes my life easier every day!!

Spotlight #3 is on Purchasing featuring Crystal Orr! Crystal is entirely focused on helping me save the county money. She oversees every purchase made in the county and is adamant about following purchasing laws for county government! She has built a great relationship with each department’s requesting officer and passes her knowledge on to them so they are confident that they are receiving the best deal for their office. Her close attention to detail and her communication with me makes a winning team and saves the county a lot of money!!

As Lincoln County Clerk, my duties do not stop at land records. In fact of the 7 employees in my office, only 2 work in land records and they are amazing! HR is another role in my office as well as Payroll & Benefits, Purchasing and accounts payable, meeting planning and follow-up Budget planning, Reconciliation….. the list could go on and on. I can’t do all of it on my own, but I have employed the most amazing team that I am very proud of!

This morning’s spotlight is on Amy Flud! She’s Supervisor over Land Records and my First Deputy! In Land Records, we see the same types of documents day in and day out, but the scenario may change, throwing us and our customers a curve ball. Amy has the grace, patience and kindness to deal with every situation and she represents the office with such class! As First Deputy, Amy also works with HR when I’m gone to make sure the office is running smoothly. Colleagues and customers alike agree that she truly is a joy to work with!
