On 05/31/2026 at 0206 Hrs. Officers from the Stringtown Police Department responded to the area of George Ranch Rd. N/O State Hwy 43E in response to a "Shots Fired" call.
Officers checked the area for evidence related to the call for service, but found none.
While still in the area, an Officer observed a white 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, traveling W/B on State Hwy 43E from Greasy Bend Rd. The Officer recognized the female driver from previous contacts and knew she had a "Revoked" drivers license. He confirmed the "Revoked" status via OLETS and initiated a traffic stop on the Aveo in the parking lot of the Stringtown Post Office.
The Officer made contact with the driver, Brandi Cottrell F/43 of Ferris Ok. and had her step from the vehicle. Cottrell was then taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked drivers license without incident
During the inventory of the vehicle, as it was being prepared for impound, the Officer found a clear plastic "bindle", containing a white crystal like substance, recognized as Methamphetamine Cottrell was additionally charged with Possession of CDS.

Prior to transportation to the Atoka County Jail, Cottrell was given the contraband advisal, regarding the introduction of contraband into a penal facility. Upon the advisal, she told the Officer she had contraband concealed on her person.
A female Detention Officer (D.O.) from the Atoka County Sheriff's Office was requested. The D.O. responded to the traffic stop and recovered the contraband Cottrell had concealed on her person.
Cottrell was then transported to and booked at the Atoka County Jail on the below listed charges.

1) Operating a motor vehicle with a "Revoked" drivers license, second subsequent. (3 Priors)
2) Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) - Methamphetamine
3) Possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Stringtown Police Department would like to remind the community of significance of today, Memorial Day 2026, and why its celebrated.

Memorial Day is often confused with Veterans Day, where we thank members of the armed forces, past and present, for their service to our Country. Memorial Day, is a day of remembrance and mourning, where we remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice, in defense of our country.

Memorial Day as we know it, originated on May 5, 1868 as "Decorations Day". It was established by General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, a union veterans organization, under General Order #11, to honor fallen Civil War soldiers.
He designated May 30th as "the day" to decorate soldiers graves with flowers.
Originally it was intended to honor just Civil War casualties, but after WW I, it was expanded to honor all soldiers who have died in military conflict.
In 1971 Congress passed the Uniform Military Holiday Act, officially establishing Memorial Day, as an official day of mourning and a federal holiday, anchoring it to the last weekend in May to create a 3-day weekend.

So as you gather with friends and family today, Memorial Day 2026, take a moment to remember those who gave their lives for us, to be able to live the way we do.
Maybe say a little prayer of thanks.

Please have a safe Memorial Day, remember to drink and act responsibly, and most importantly look out after one another.
