Washington County is under a burn ban effective immediately. With the hot and dry conditions looking to persist for several days, we will quickly dry out any vegetation and make the risk of wildfire very high. Please refrain from any outside burning.
Washington County Arkansas Judge Patrick Deakins has issued a county wide burn ban beginning today, August 11, at noon.
“Right now, we have to consider not only the threat of fire, but also the conditions our firefighters and other emergency responders are working in,” said Judge Deakins. With temperatures in the upper 90s and heat indexes expected to exceed 100 degrees, the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke is very real. “A burn ban will not eliminate every fire, but it can reduce the number of preventable fires caused by outdoor burning. Every fire we can prevent means one less situation where we are asking our first responders to work in these extreme conditions.”
