Today between 12:23PM and 1:10PM, Streetsboro Fire Department responded all on duty personnel to 4 separate back-to-back incidents:

12:23PM - Mutual aid EMS call to Hudson. No transport. On the way back into town, this EMS crew responded to the next incident.

12:47PM - Motor vehicle crash with entrapment - State Route 14 near Lake Rockwell. A total of 2 EMS units responded along with an Engine crew and Command car. 2 victims, both sustaining traumatic injuries, were extricated from their vehicles and transported to a local trauma center by ground. Streetsboro Police Department continues to investigate this crash.

12:58PM - EMS call for a fall victim. A 3rd Streetsboro EMS unit and support vehicle responded. After providing assistance to the victim and conducting a full evaluation, she refused transport. A Kent EMS unit initially called for mutual aid was able to be cancelled.

1:10PM - With 2 other incidents still in progress, another EMS call came in, this one for a person passed out inside Walmart. A support vehicle responded and mutual aid from Twinsburg was requested. After a thorough on scene assessment by the first responding unit and Twinsburg EMS, the victim signed off and was released at the scene to a relative.

With proper resource management and mutual aid assistance, we were able to provide direct assistance to each person in need without delay. Our thanks to Kent and Twinsburg Fire Departments for their quick responses when called.

From Mayor Glenn M. Broska:

PLEASE SHARE IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This evening the traffic pattern at the square will be changed in preparation for a new phase to begin. The new phase will be the north west corner (the one near the veterans memorial). This phase is expected to be completed in about 2 weeks. From what I saw of the markings on the road, the changes look significant so please be aware tomorrow morning.

Give yourself plenty of time as folks get accustomed to the new pattern.

Today, Streetsboro Fire Department staff participated in an active threat training exercise at Kent State University.

During the afternoon training session, Firemedic Scott Wilson and Firemedic Jayson Flask were assigned as Rescue Task Force 2 with two law enforcement officers. Their role was to move through assigned areas of a building, provide additional treatment to 'victims' with simulated shooting related injuries, then move them outside for transport to a collection point for transport to a hospital. During both the morning and afternoon sessions, Captain Kevin Grimm served as an evaluator for the Incident Command/Unified Command part of each exercise.

The Streetsboro Fire Department welcomes every opportunity to train in unique situations such as this, especially with neighboring departments. Ideas and lessons learned today will be incorporated into future training and response protocols in Streetsboro.

Did you know? Approximately 90% of the nearly 3,500 incidents we respond to each year are emergency medical related.

Streetsboro Fire Department runs 3 advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical units. Many times, 2 or even all 3 ambulances are out on back-to-back incidents. Overall, we average 8-10 incidents per 24-hour shift.

We are proud to serve our community and appreciate your continued support!

This National EMS Week, we proudly recognize the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, educators, and healthcare professionals who make a difference every single day.

Your commitment to patient care, rapid response, and community service does not go unnoticed. Whether on the front lines of emergency response or helping shape the next generation of EMS providers, your impact is immeasurable.

Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and compassion.

Happy National EMS Week from University Hospitals. 🚑❤️
